Quilt in a Day Forums

THis weekend I took a class from Sue Wilson on the cotton theory, it was a really fun class kind of a quilt as you go process, it was alot of fun, we also learned some about bobbin work which I was not familiar with at all. We make a table runner and it was alot of fun, has anyone else tried this technique. There are so many interesting techniques I really can't do them all, is it best to pick one and do it all the time or go for it and do different all the time, the trouble is I never really master one. I can do some of the ok but would really do a perfect one, just one time, What do you all do. Thanks B-Lynn

I bought a couple of Betty Cotton's books, pattern and the VHS tape. It's neat technique but I never did anything larger than a baby quilt. Seems like it takes me more time to do her Cotton Theory than to piece and quilt the regular way. But her quilts are gorgeous for sure! Amie )

I have the books and CDs too but haven't used them. I like to try new things and I think that is because I haven't found anything that truely works well. Mabe you have it right. I haven't found anything that truely works well because I don't stick with it long enough to master it. Oh well, life is short. Have as many experiences as possible.

I agree it takes longer but when you are done with that block and put them together it is all quilted, I do like that because I am a slow hand quilter and not very good quilting on my home machine, if I have a quilt I can't do stippling on or don't want stippling on I have to send it to a long arm quilter. I have been given a book called Crazy Shortcut Quilts which is quilt as you go. Useful idea if you are making strip quilts you can make the blocks in one go with strips straight onto the batting and backing so they are already quilted..
