What type of batting is the warmest to use for machine quilting. I want to make some quilts for our cottage up north and want something that will be warm.

I use Warm and Natural but Hobbs makes a Down batt that may be even warmer. Amie

Warm and Natural gets my vote but Quilters Dream is also nice. marge

Is the Hobbs Down batt real thin? I was thinking of ordering some and I don't want anything that is paper thin. I'd like at least a medium loft.

I love the cotton batts. I use Warm and Natural most of the time. If the store is out of Warm & Natural I will buy what ever they have that is mostly cotton.

Hobbs has wool batting. You can see and read about it right here on QIAD. I have never used it, we don't need much wool here in SC, but I have used Hobbs brand and it is very good.

I used the Quilter's Dream wool in a quilt for our bed. It's very light weight but wonderfully warm without being too hot. DH wants our next winter quilt to have the same batting. It's one of the few years we've lived in our hosue that he doesn't have to wear jammies to bed when it's really cold out and we dont' want to turn up the thermostat.

I've used the Quilter's Dream wool batting and it is wonderful and drapes beautifully. You have to watch out for shrinking with the wool batting. The more densly it is quilted, the less it will shrink. Ask me how I know this!!! LOL

I'm a fan of Warm and Natural, but have heard really good things about Quilters Dream.

Batting? For Cottage? One quilter here has used Polar fleece of all things for her quilt (not bad).

I prefer warm and natural, hand stitching friendlier on hand and Q-Snap table will handle this OK! Can re-use, serger will sew batting remnants tog. nicely for recycling.

Fiberfill found in winter, when furnaces work, rugs, it creates static, then my cat gets zapped. Washes nicely.
