Four Patch

I have 66 four-patch blocks that my great-grandmother pieced by hand that are each approximately 6 inches square. I would like to put them together to make quilts for two of my children. The fabric is scrap material that was given to Grandma and they are different colors and even different fabric types but mostly cottons. They have different patterns and are not solid colors. I would like some ideas of how to put them together to make two quilts. I want it to look old and am considering muslin maybe. Does anyone have ideas for me? I appreciate your help.

hi Lovequilts... welcome....

I would lay the blocks on the living room floor in rows... and move them around till you see a quilt top you like then just sew them together...

you can always add a neutral color like white or cream or something that goes with all the 4 patches and add it to the mix which would kind of pull it all together and break up the 4patches a bit....

it's anything goes in quilting... whatever looks nice to you is a beautiful quilt.... and will be a real treasure for your kids...

be sure to post a picture...

Lovequilts, what a wonderful windfall! And a great idea to make them into quilts for your children..
If you want to stay with the old fashioned fabric, I would use muslin. Chriss had a good idea, laying them out on the floor and moving them around...you could also alternate them with 6" muslin blocks..that would, like Chriss said, break them up a bit..give the eye a place to "rest"..and set off the 4 patches nicely!
Whatever you decide, it will be wonderful quilts!!

Have you thought of setting them on point with a solid color block in between each 4-patch?

Hi LoveQuilts
Your blocks intrigued me so I put together something in my EQ6.
This quilt takes 30 of your blocks. It is 58.43 x66.92 with a 2 inch inner border and a 6 inch outer border. Let me know if you want to try another design or want some of the measurements changed

I made a 9-patch alternated with a muslin print that turned out great. I like the idea of alternating the 4-patch with muslin it would make the 4-patch blocks shine. putting them on pint would also highlight the blocks. what a treasure to receive.
