Ironing board cover

My DH has just made me an oversized ironing board and I know I cannot buy a cover for it in the stores. Could anyone tell me how to make one myself? Thank you!

this is what I did.

Purchased a length of Warm & Natural 90" wide batting about 10 inches longer than my board. Also purchased duck canvas in the same length.

Folded the W&N into thirds width wise do about 30" I think my board is 24". Laid the W&N on the floor and then put the board upside down on top of it. Then I pulled up the excess and stapled it to the board on the bottom - pulling tight so there were no puckers. Then I did the same with the canvas. If I need to replace the canvas I should be able to pull the staples w/o having to replace the batting.

You can also purchase the regular silver-gray ironing board covering, that the commercial covers are made from. I got mine several years ago at JoAnns for less than $10 a yard. I like it because it is fire retardent and very slick. It was 60" wide, so you don't need a lot. I've used this cover for more than 10 years and never had to replace it yet. If you get a starch build-up on it, you can wash it off.

Just a thought here. Warm and Natural has a heat resistant batting called Insul-brite. I found it at JoAnn's but it wasnt' with their regular batting. It was on bolts and located (in the Tacoma Store) near the Home Dec and Clearance fabrics.

I just made an over sized ironing board and used Martha Stewart's recipe for covering it (NOT the English bump) .... I used heavy flannel, insul-brite, felt and heavy duty muslin.http://www.marthastewart.com/article/ov ... ning-board
