I haven't seen any update in the UFO Support Group thread since the end of June. Has everyone given up on their UFOs or are are we working hard on them and haven't taken time to up date their listing?

My UFO list is way too long -- I think there are 28 projects in progress, not including my completed tops or flimsys. I've got 39 tops waiting to be quilted. Yikes!

Right now I'm trying to stay focused on just a couple of projects. I'm currently quilting my nephew's quilt -- seems like I've been working on it forever. In reality, I started the hand quilting in May. I'm about 2/3s of the way through the hand quilting, and then I'll machine quilt the outer border.

On the piecing front my focus is the Double Wedding Ring I started in Sept 89. On the side I'm keeping up with the Sylvia's Bridal Sampler BOW -- at least for the last couple of months.

So, how are you doing on your UFOs?

Well, you might throw pins at me for this, but I don't think I have any UFO's. I have lots of PLANNED projects waiting in the wings, but I haven't started on them yet. Do they count? And I have a cross-stitched Christmas stocking that I've been working on for a year or more. It's "TV work" when my hands get itchy for something to do. I guess I have a tendency that when I start a project, I work at a frezied pace until it's finished before I start another one.

I DID have one UFO once for 29 years. When I was pregnant with my son, Mike, I embroidered the 50 State Flowers. Too me 6 months. Then I sewed them together in red blocks of "kettle cloth". (remember kettle cloth?) but I never went any further. It sat in a box until that baby son decided to get married! His wife loves green, so I pulled out that quilt top, tore it all apart, hand washed, pressed, and trimmed each block, and sewed them up with green fabric. I sashed it, finished it off, and gave it to the kids for a wedding gift.

So, I don't have many UFO's but when I do, I HANG ON TO THEM!! Do I get extra credit for longevity? Can anyone top 29 years?

Good for you Mary for not having any UFOs. I admire that - just can't emulate it.

The fire took care of all of my UFOs, ugly fabrics, stuff I didn't know what I was going to make... One day I figured up that I had over 35 projects in some state of "start"--tops completed, blocks pieced, fabrics and patterns "pulled" or kits purchased, tops under way--hand and machine projects--several of each... UGH!!! Probably my oldest was a BHG set of blocks to color with Crayolas then heat set, set together and quilt. I was still coloring on the blocks after OVER 30 years! I think there was just a block or two left, then I needed to find the right fabric for setting... Oops! No longer. Now, I'm working on my new pile of UFOs. I have one twin and two smaller quilts to take to an LAQ, a small quilt I'm hand-quilting (lge doll size), a table runner ready to quilt, and I'm sewing the borders on my DH's quilt... I also have fabrics purchased for a couple more projects. Had promised myself to finish one project at a time. I'm incapable of doing that. LOL The creative juices flow faster than the hands and machine work!

I'm trying but not getting very far, always seems a new project comes up that needs immediate attention. I do have one that I adore, it needs 3 blocks made and then put together. You all may just give me the incentive to JUST DO IT. I'll try to keep up with it and post how I'm doing. hgs, carol/kittyqulit

You can't work on the skirt from the ugly fabric I sent you until you get those 3 blocks made and the top put together?

YES, I am burind in UFOS. It's so hard to start working on a project from "before" because i've alreay moved on to something else. I will blame that on Adult ADD! Amie

FarmChick, not that I would wish disaster on anyone or myself, I've often thought that if I could start with a clean slate, I wouldn't find myself with so many partial completed projects. But I guess that's not necessarily true.

Amie -- it sounds like we have the same problem -- always wanting to work on something new!

I'm doing my best to fight that this year - or at least finish what I start new. This year I've started 9 new projects and have finished 5 and two more are to the top stage, which is when I pull them off my ufo list. Of the other 2 new starts, one is a block swap which won't be swapped until late October (but my blocks were delivered to the hostess today!) and the other one needs the paper pieced sashings made.

But yet I dreams of new quilts. I'm doing my best to talk myself out of starting anything else new and to just work on my ufos.

That's a real incentive, Knitnoid, I really want to make that skirt. I'll work on this and see if I can make it work. hugs, carol/kittyquilt
