Quilt in a Day Forums

I am finally making my first quilt. I am about to layer it and I know that the backing should be taut. I don't have a surface large enough tht I wouldn't mind being scratch by the pins. I was thinking about taping the backing down on the tile floor. If this isn't a good idea, what can I use as a protector for my dining room table.

Karen, I layer my quilt on the dining room table. When I'm ready to pin, I slide my cutting mat under and move it around so the pins hit it and not the table.

I have a table I bought from Joann's which is perfect for me. It is tall so I don't have to bend over and when I am doing a king size quilt I borrow my BFF table because she has one also. They run about $100 but if you get their coupons you can get them for 40% off with that coupon.

Karen, I have done both, on the tile floor and on a table. Personally, I like the table better, even though it means working in sections. Would rather bend over a table than be down on hands and knees on the floor. Plus, I don't have to wash the floor prior to quilting...LOL!

I can't work on the floor any more because my mom's dog will walk all over my quilts and she doesn't understand why the Alpha female (me) is suddenly yelling at her...whad-I-do?!!

Thank for you tips. I am heading for JoAnns next week- coupon in hand. In the meantime, I think I will slide the cutting mat around.
The old knee has arthritis so kneeling on the tile floor wouldn't have been too comfortable.
