Fabric where the color runs

Post by njbaygirl »

I bought some dark blue fabric to put into a baby quilt that will have
a white background. I washed the blue and boy did it run. I kept rinsing
until now the water is clear. Do you think this will be OK or is there
something I can put in the water to set the color permanently? I really
don't want to give this as a baby gift and then have the baby's mother
wash it and the blue be all over the white. Thanks for any help anyone
can give me.

I have used white vinegar in the water to set the fabric - also have heard that a table salt water rinse will also set the colors from bleeding

Wash it and use the Retayne...Works great! Vinegar will also help.

I use the vinegar too, but also use the SHOUT Color Catcher sheets. They work wonders. You put them in the washer.

I didn't really have the name right so I corrected it.

If a fabric bleeds that much I wouldn't use it. it will fade very fast losing that much color. And a baby quilt will be washed a lot.
