Quilt in a Day Forums

I found one post on this and was wondering if someone had anything new on this. I love the thought of machine quilting but the price tag - gadzooks! - let alone the room needed - my dh would have to move out of the master bedroom! LOL!
I understand G. Bonesteel's and have used it once though I had trouble keeping my hand sewing from coming undone after a few years of hard use. Are there any other ways to do quilt as you go or lap quilting that are easy to use? Maybe some videos?

What about Betty Cotton and the Cotton Theory? I saw her when she was on Sewing with Nancy a couple of years ago. I have not used her method but it was all done on the machine.

I don't know anything about the Cotton theory - have you used it before?

I have Marti Michell's book "Machine Quilting In Sections." It shows several different ways to quilt on a regular sewing machine. I've tried the quilting by rows. It wasn't difficult. I would suggest trying it on a lap or twin quilt first.

My mom really liked the quilt as you go method using the machine. She would do each block on the machine and then connect them with a lattice. I think it was similar to G. Bonesteel's method. She loved G. by the way:)

I just finished a twin size quilt as you go and loved it. I oversized the back and batting, sewed the lattice and cornerstones on, then quilted the blocks. I squared up the blocks, then I sewed the front lattices together on the machine and sewed the back seams by hand. Then I stitched in the ditch on the lattice and cornerstones from the front side. Much easier to do the straight lines on the bigger piece. If you plan it right, you will catch your hand sewen seams in the machine stitching.

I do all my quilting on my sewing machine with the Georgia Bonesteel way. She has a book out called "Lap Quilting Lives"that shows you how to do this. It is reall easy to do. You can put it together using lattice or block to block without lattice. If you can not find the book let me know and I will send you a copy of the directions.
