Quilt Guild Black & White Challenge

Post by calicopuzzle » Mon Mar 23, 2009 2:10 pm

We are having a challenge at our quilt show this summer, and this is my entry into the "Black & White Challenge" that guild members can participate in. The project must be in black and white, of course, and not be larger than 25". Here is my entry. I am not a black and white person as I love color, but the block was a challenge and I messed up my share of seams....but it was "challenging".

This is so striking. The floweres look a pale pink. Love it!

The pattern is from a book called, "Doubledipity:More Serendipity Quilts" by Sara Nephew. The patterns are nothing but triangles and diamonds. Inka has tried a couple and she is more precise than I am....but I may try another one sometime. The center diamonds are cut like the Stack & Whack so they are supposed to spiral around like kaeleidescope. This uncolorful fabric doesn't do the whole idea justice....black & white and off-white with beige centers on the flowers.....

WOW I absolutely love that. I can imagine a whole quilt with that pattern. It does make me think of a kaeleidescope.

Absolutely breathtaking design!!!! I love it. You did a beautiful job of fussy cutting those flowers. I am not a black and white person either but I love that. I can't even imagine how pretty that would be in color. But perhaps the black and white lets the pattern become more striking due to the stark contrast. Whatever, it is gorgeous.

Thanks so much for sharing. Happy quilting. Hugs, Shirley Mae
