Tossed nine patch

Well now I think I know why it is called tossed nine patch or disappearing nine patch. It was one of the first patterns tried to cut out a few months back. I got so frustrated I sent to pieces I had done to a really super lady and I think I "tossed" the "disappearing" pattern. Dang, where did it go. Once I find where it went I am going to try it again, and follow the directions this time. I love looking at all the photos everyone so generiously shares, I have no imagination at all. Thank you

dont' give up.... I ordered the kit from QIAD... it was just 5 inch charms and some white fabric for the center square in the nine patch...maybe it would help if you bought the already cut charms... it would sure cut down on cutting time... and just make nine patches....you will do fine plus you have all of us to ask questions of... I am sure yours will be beautiful

I think what happened was that it was a "first try" at a pattern and I am sure that I didn't cut or measure correctly. Sharon ended up making a darling comfort quilt for her projects but I just could not do a thing with it. If I don't find my pattern notes that someone on here sent me,I am headed to the store to find the real pattern (probably my best idea) Thanks for the support

Here's what I ended up with after sewing Chrissy's D9P blocks together. I then added the 2 borders....squint while looking at it and it looks pretty cool.

Well Sharon, you created a miracle with what I sent you. I think my problem was with my measurements. The pattern I got said use 4" squares to make a 12"block but it would really be 11 1/2 then directions said to square it up to 11" and then cut them into 5.5" squares. I think I forgot the squaring up part,ooopppsss. I saw on some website that you could make these for preemies with not too much trouble and we have a friend who has twin preemie granddaughters born at 31 weeks that I would like to make something for.

I have the same problem at times. Sharon you did a great job on the quilt. Love the colors.

Thanks, Pilot2b...it sure turned out bright! I think using the pink border helped to bring it all together. I auditioned the green and blue (matching the little squares) but it looked blah so went with the pink.

Chrissy, You have to cut blocks almost 5" to end up with a finished 12" block. I think I used 6" squares in the one I'm working on now....don't remember. It's ready for backing.

I should have squared up the blocks so at least the little blocks would look to be the same size, but I didn't....squared after sewing them together.....actually, didn't even think of it! @:)

If I take 5" charms or cut pieces and make the 9 patch, won't it come out around a 14 1/2" square? Do I use that to cut in quarters or do I cut it to make it a different size? Thank you

Chrissy, True, if you use 5" squares and make a 9-patch, it will be 14".....cut that into squares and you'll have 4 7" squares.....sew those together and you'll have a 13 1/2" (unfinished) block. That's why I said 'almost' 5"....more like 4 7/8" and then after cutting the 9-patch, square up the 4 blocks to 6 1/2".....that should give you the 12" (finished) you're looking for. Clear as mud?????? @:)

(edited cause it's too early to spell correctly..let alone do math);
