yes my darling little puppy Goldie ate about 16 x12 inches of the corner of my batting as i had it hung over my quilting chair to let the wrinkles fall out thanks goodness it was batting and not my top i had worked so hard on putting together so i think you can piece another piece to it instead of tossing it or using it in a smaller project so how would be the best way to do it so after quilt is done no one but me and the dog knows what happened inside that sandwich

I've heard that you can zig zag 2 pieces of batting together, but I've never done it. I think you just put them right next to each other(not overlapping) and use a wide zig zag to connect. Hope that helps some.

I have done the same technique by zig-zagging the pieces together to use up odds and ends of batting for many years and it works great. Just butt them together and either sew by machine - a wide and long stitch or even do it by hand. I have made many quilts with no problems

Trim the edges of the batting to get a clean edge. It's easier to put in a square or a triangle than an irregular shape. Cut a piece of batting LARGER than the missing chunk. I haven't had much luck with the machine technique; I pin the edges of the batting together and whipstitch them by hand with a single length of thread. Take a stitch about every 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Keep the stitches fairly loose. Every six or seven stitches or so, open the pieces out flat to make sure the stitches are loose enough. Once you get the feel for it, you won't have to check so often.

The batting pieces should lie flat and smooth, edges joined snugly, but not so snug that you have a ridge. Once it is stitched in securely, you can trim the outer edges as needed.

I've done it the same way as Carole.

Ditto CaroleJ. I've done it by machine, too, but I like the loose hand stitching better. It doesn't take long at all. BTW, my puppy has eaten the corner off my batting, too, as it was hanging off the quilting frame. He only chewed off about 2 - 3" so I was lucky. It didn't affect the quilt. Another inch and it would have - LOL.

I put a lot of pieces of cotton batting together for tablerunners, placemats, etc. I layer 2 pieces and cut with rotary cutter. Then I butt the two pieces together and sew with a 'multiple zig zag'on the machine. With poly batting I do the hand stitching method. I don't like to waste and use whatever I can!

I don't have a real answer here but my very first thought was..... wait till the puppy does his business....lol....

thanks everyone i decided to try butting it together and i zig zag it with a long stitch i dont think anyone will know my little secret about the batting when all is finished
