I'm going to make a baby quilt and it is asking 3/4 yard of fabric for outer border and binding. If I use a Fat Quarter will I have enough?

No because 3/4 of a yard is almost a yard of fabric.

Hi,

The quick answer is no, a Fat Quarter will not be enough. When making a border for a quilt, you need to first decide if you're willing to piece it or not. For strength, it's nice to be able to cut your border pieces on the length of grain (parallel to the selvage), but we know in real life that's not always possible. So usually, those pieces are cut on the cross grain, selvage to selvage. Quilt borders can be pieced if necessary, but definitely require more fabric than a Fat Quarter. Bindings are pieced, and depending on whether you cut the fabric needed for them on the cross grain or on the bias, see link, fabric requirement differ. A person can get a lot of binding from a small piece of fabric is they use the bias cut method.

Here are a few links that you might find helpful in calculation your fabric requirements for your binding and some helpful info for cutting your border pieces. The first link is a calculator that when you tell it the length and width of your finished project, it will then tell you how much fabric you'll need for your binding.

A fat quarter is a HALF of a HALF yard, so 4 fats make 1 yard. Amie
