I was asked to demo making a Christmas ornament for my quilt guild. Anyone know of of one I could demo that is different than the ordinary small quilt block?

Here's something I'd love to try :-)

There's a tutorial a bit down on the page, I think it looks like a lot of fun!

I've thought of sewing metal before, interesting. I found instructions for making the pine cone ornament. It's perfect for demoing. I have another reason to dislike the town I'm in! No egg shap styrofoam anywhere! WalMart doesn't even have any. This means a trip to the city to Hobby Lobby. I found the greatest ribbon to make the pinecones though, it's brown camoflodge.

This uses a empty spool for an ornament.

I made a little paper-pieced ornament last year, maybe 3x3 inch square, depicting a Christmas tree. I layered it with Heat-N-Bond Lite and put a backing on it. Rather than putting a binding on the edges (boy, would that have been a big pain!), I double-stitched about 3/8 inch from the edge and then pinked the edge. Then I got some little sparkly beads and sewed them onto the tree to look like garland.

It was a hit at an ornament swap, so much so that two moms were sort of nicely squabbling over it. I settled the matter by making another one for the mom who didn't get it in the swap.
