Frames

Post by SuesQuilts » Fri Jul 18, 2008 3:07 pm

I have a Baby Lock Quest and was wondering when I am in the market to purchase a frame for it which one would serve me best. I do king sized quilts so it would have to accomodate something that large. Any suggestions? And of course I will hopefully graduate into a longarm so I wouldn't have to repurchase another frame to go with the longarm. I know very little but am learning alot from the posts that I read.

SuesQuilts - I don't think you can go from a domestic machine frame to a long arm machine on the same frame. I have a B-Line frame with a Juki machine. My frame is adjustable up to 12' (144"). Right now I have it at 8'. I got my B-line frame from Bayside Quilting and they are on the web. You can go there and get all the info about this frame. I am interested in getting a mid-arm (no room for a long arm) machine and the rep from Nolting said that a Fun Quilter would work on my frame. That's the only one though. Everything else needs a different frame. All I can say is research, research, research.

The Hinterberg Stretch and the ProFlex are the 2 that will accomadate a larger throat. A longarm is an 18" throat or larger. Anything between 10" and 17" is a midarm. The Hinty Stretch has been around for a long time and the Proflex has been out about 2 years. The Proflex has an auto tension system so you don't have to manually hold onto the poles to keep them from unrolling whe your advancing. Both are great frames, Amie ;OD

Cindy, your B-line will take anything up to a 17" throat. You just need to push the machine back a little on your carriage. Otherwise, you have to buy a new carriage from b-line for $325. I am in the B-line group on Yahoo. The only other modification you might need it new wheels, but that's only if you haven't upgraded to the newer nylon tracks. Hope this helps, Amie :o)

There are quite a few frames that you can get that will work for up to a king size. The thing to be cognizant of is when you do work your way up to a bigger machine, is if your frame be able to support the weight of it.

I know the Hinterberg Stretch machine will easily accomodate the 70# mid arm, Voyager.

Take your time & do your research :) Keep us posted, OK?
