I am starting a new quilt using all stars , pieced patterns , and have seen the antique quilts using two colors , red and white . My back ground fabric is cream color , and I do not know if it will be ok to use any red and white small prints , such as gingham check , in my pieces ?? may be I should use white background for that ?? Or maybe I should just not try the red color idea , and use various matching cream , other color prints in the stars ??

Hay, it's your quilt, do what YOU like. You might lay out the reds on the cream and see what you think. Or, see what the cream/beiges look like. I make a quilt using 13 differnt cream/beige fabrics and I am very happy with it.
Good luck, and have fun.

I'm certainly not an expert, but........If you are going to use a cream color background, I would use fabrics with cream color for any other blocks. I think gingham is a white background, so would use white or something that is white/on/white with it.
I don't remember seeing your name here on this forum before so I'd like to say Welcome also.

It is your quilt. But I have seen read and white quilts before and the ones I like best use the white. That does not mean it can't be the other way. I think I would make a couple of star blocks using cream then white hang them on the wall and look at them for a couple of weeks an see which one speaks to you.

Country tones of reds would look lovely with the cream background; but have to say I would not use the gingham with the bright white.
