Quilt in a Day Forums

Hi one and all
I had a brainstorm idea. I want to make my Mom a lap quilt using 6" or 8" finished squares. I want to do a square in a square method. Does El have that method in any of her books. I have purchased mini squares 3" and want to place a triangle on the sides but am drawing a blank as how to do it. Obviously sashes and posts can be added to each square as well to get to the 6 or 8 inches.

Does anyone out there know how to accomplish this?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. (This is one of those quilts I thought of at 2 am when I could not sleep. I can see the design in my head but cannot get it together with fabric.)

Here is a link to some directions. If you use the paper piecing at the bottom of the page and draw your own pattern subtract half an inch from your square in the middle for the seam allowances. I can figure size you need, but not right now. even if you don't paper piece, draw a diagram without the seam allowances, then add the seam allowances to the triagle corner to get the size.

You are great.

You need corner triangles of 2 5/8" to go on a 3 inch square. I would make them at least 2 3/4" and then the the block could be squared up. The finished size would be a little bigger than 3 1/2" according to my drawing.
