The only thing I've seen at quilt shops that is $2 is a fat quarter!
The only thing I've noticed is the poor quality fabric no matter what it cost, will weaken faster then the better quality. I don't use the poor quality fabric except for projects like pillows, place mats, pot holders, or for a quilt I know will be likey to be in the back of a truck our used as a beach blanket.

Hi Ollie, I think I would use all the cheap fabric in a quilt together and a quilt for your better fabrics. They don't "wear" the same and the cheaper ones weaken and do not look the same after being washed a couple times. But, if all the fabrics are the same quality, good or cheap, the quilt will "wear" evenly if they are together. I have both types and none of my cheap quilts have fallen apart but the "early" quilts from the Walmart fabric are not as cozy, soft, or nice looking as my shop quality quilts, but the fabrics are just happier living with their own kind, lol! However, I've never met a quilt that I didn't love-cheap or not ;OD Amie

I tend to use the cheaper fabrics in my wall hangings. The less the quilt is handeled, the longer they last. Many times I will purchase a fabric just for it's color or pattern.
