What's the best black cotton fabric?

Good morning everyone,
Having realized that some black cotton fabric can be quite flimsy and see through, I'm hoping someone out there can direct me to a better quality black. I'm going to frame batiks for a Sudoku pattern. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Karla

I've used Hoffman's Kona Cotton for a swap I was in a while back. A friend and I ordered it from Hancock's of Paducah. I'm not sure what happened, but we each ended up with twice as much as we were expecting. Turned out to be OK. I've about used up the extra in various other projects.

I also vote for Kona Cotton. I've found it at Hancocks (not the Paducah one) and Hobby Lobby. Lots of solid colors to choose from.

I just looked at the website Knitnoid posted. They have better prices than Hobby Lobby or the regular Hancocks. It's $5.99 a yard there. Although it is strange that Hancocks of Paducah lists their prices by the half-yard. But still, $2.25 equals $4.50 a yard which makes it a better deal.

I love the Kona solids. Our Hobby Lobby here just had a sale on all Kona solids - $3.99/yard. I bought 6 yards each of the white, black, and sand colors. Like to keep them on hand, and I only purchase when there is a sale.

Thanks everyone!!
That was easier than I thought it would be. Kona it is!
Has anyone tried Kona's "Jet Black" yet? I see it's a bit pricier at 7.25 a yard, and hard to find. I've only found it at "Fiber on a Whim" so far.
Thanks,
Karla

I too vote for Kona Solid. So much so that when I had a coupon for Hobby Lobby, I bought a bolt of it. It is the only black solid I will use.

Quick Question! Is Kona a brand? I have bought Kona at JoAnn Fabrics but I wonder if this is what you are all talking about...or is Kona just a type of fabric and if so is there a particular brand you should buy? I bought the off white one from JoAnn's and use it instead of muslin but I believe it just said Kona.....
Thanks, Susie

I originally thought Kona was a brand -- but I think it's actually a type of cotton. The stuff I like is manufactured by Hoffman Fabrics.
