I have a bunch of small scrap pieces (about 2" by 4"). They are all flannel and have a baby theme to them. What is a good quilt pattern to use to use them up? I am just a beginner so I don't know of many quilt patterns.

Just an idea, you could try trimming them all to the same size, putting them in a pile by your machine, and just start sewing vertical rows together at random. When the row is long enough, add the next vertical row, and so forth. When you have enough vertical rows, sew the horizontal rows, put a border around it and TA DAH!
I don't know if it would be a good idea to try to follow a set pattern using small scraps; could get real frustrating real fast--LOL!
Hope this helps,
Carole

and if you don't have enough vertical strips, add strips of solid colors inbetween the vertical strips.

Would they necessarily have to be the same size? Kind of a brick sort of thing. I saw one out of a can of worms and they were cut 4", 6", and 8" and all pieced randomly.

Carole,
That's how I think I'll handle my UFOs...randomly. Thanks for the encouragement!

I found a really simple and clever way to use up scraps. It is called "Crumb Chaos" blocks:
quiltingisstillmypassion.blogspot.com/2007/07/mile-minute-blocks-photo-tutorial.html
I made a "zillion" of these using up my little scraps ...even if they were odd-shaped. I made one pile of blocks in brites and pastels. The other blocks were browns, navy, burgandy, green, gold, and cream colored scraps. Now I have to decide how I want to sew them together. I know I have more than enough for a quilt of each color way. Maybe I will have enough left-over blocks to make table runners!
Have fun~Marcia

You know that preprinted fusible they have at the quilt stores... the one with the 1" squares all over it? Well, using that as your bottom piece, (I'd make these into small blocks... 6" maybe) use as they are, or cut all your little fabric squares just a bit larger than 1" all around, lay out onto each square, and when your 6" square is all full, gently lay a sheet of waxed paper, freezer paper or a teflon applique sheet, over the top and press. This will fuse all those little pieces to the interfacing. Then free-motion quilt all over it to hold them into place. Voila! you have a pre-quilted square.

I love the ideas! Sewing with 1in squares sounds scary however...
