Quilt in a Day Forums

I'd like to make a little quilt for my friend's grand daughter in England. It would be for her "Build-a-Bear" cat that I sent her for Christmas last year.

How big do you think it should be? I was thinking about the size of a 30" or 40" square table topper. Or should it be a rectangle? I've bought a lot of outfits and shoes for the cat at the Build-a-Bear store and mailed them to her, but I haven't seen any bedding so I'm not sure how big to make the quilt. Any suggestions? I'm sure there must be some Grandma's in the group who have done this.

I took my grandkids to build a bear and it was a blast..

How big was the cat? If it was small you might not need the quilt to be too big. However, 30" would probably be a good size. It wouldn't matter what shape tho maybe square would work pretty well.IMHO

Penny Cat wears the same clothes as the bears, so she's the same size they are. I was thinking a 30" quilt would be okay, so I'm glad you think that would be okay.

I think veryone should take a kid to Build-a-Bear! It's so much fun to make your bear, stuff it, give it a little heart, and pick out it's clothes. Kids absolutely love the whole process and whoever thought of it really hit the jackpot. lol

I'm going to get myself one just so I'll have it on hand for when I'm making clothes for Eve's cat ... that way I can make them to fit the bear and I'll know they'll be the right size for her cat.

I've never been to build a bear but had my great-grandmothers' fur coats made into 'memory bears'. They are just beautiful and I wish I could post a picture of them. They were just hanging in my mom's closet and I have a friend who works in a taxidery shop and does this on the side. This was such a neat idea and now I can see them every day. I was very close to my ggmother and now it's like I have a piece of her in my life........jan in Punxsy PA

Judy, the 30" would be perfect since I know what size Penny is now.
She's the same size as Murphy & Maggie. I do not know where they came up with these names but that's what we put on their birth certificates.
They want to go again & buy new clothes, at least my DGD does.

They have scads of outfits, shoes, and all kinds of accessories on the build a bear website that you can order. I do that when I don't feel like driving 30 miles and fighting the mall crowd. The next outfit I'm going to get Penny Cat is the American Indian "Pocohantas" dress and moccasins! I know my little Brit friend will go mad for it. LOL the great part of the whole thing is that the clothes are very reasonably priced.

For my best friend's 40th birthday, I took her to Build-A-Bear. We decided that we were tired of giving each other something that we need or something for the house, so I decided to give her something that she didn't need, want, or have a use for. We had a blast! We each made a bear and got a fancy dress (and all the accessories) and then got pjs, too. Her bear sits proudly on her mantel for all to see. And she tells anyone who asks that is it something that she didn't need, want or have a use for, that is why it is on the mantel! A definite must for anyone, especially if you need a little cheer me up.
