Taming my scrap basket

Here is a picture of my scrap basket AFTER I spent an afternoon working on the top layer. I have a friend coming over this weekend to "help" me with cutting into strips and squares. I've decided that the best way would be if it's big enough to cut it into charm squares and then strips. My friend Suzie was over last night and her daughters were excited to be in there fingering through it. They dug down into the bottom to get an idea of what was in there and guess what they found?

I forgot this was in there! It's 'leftovers' from my granddaughter's quilt that I made in July!

I don't know how old this one is! There are 4 sets of 2 rows of squares, 2 sets to be cut into squares and I haven't counted the remainder of strips that are to be sewn together to make more! I don't remember who it was for either. I vaguely remember working on it....Am I gettting old? or what?

Ah-ha, a hidden UFO. LOL Join the group.

I just finished cuttin all my scraps into either 2 1/2" strips or 4" squares. Maybe someday they'll turn into something, but for now, they are neat and orderly.

Ok, I spent every night last week working on this scrap basket of mine and I still feel like I haven't made a dent in it!

I wanted to post pics of how it's working. Here is a pic of a piece of scrap before.....

and after you can see the pieces I'm keeping on the left, a true "scrap" piece in the center and the only thing I'm throwing away on the right......

I've got to get to work on my scrap basket. One of the tips I've read is to go through and sort by color, so even though the basket is 'fluffed', you can say 'the blues are done'.

"fluffed".....hmmm.....

THAT'S IT!!! I'm half-way through and it's just "fluffed"!
(if I keep repeating that, will it be true?)

Jan, sounds like the scraps have been making whoopee and multiplying at the bottom of the basket! Scraps need to be exposed to light and air periodically to prevent their uncontrolled urge to reproduce. This is a little-known fact.
