I love the scrap bin. Was at Walmart yesterday and they keep it next to the cutting table. So while I was waiting for my fabric to get cut, I browsed around a little in the bin and found 3 yds of different cute fabrics for a nice discount!

What sorts of treasures have you all found in the scrap bin?

Hi armywife, haven't seen a post from you before. Seeing where you are made me abit homesick, as I am origonally from Waco. Am now in Florida, but have a daughter in Austin so still come back to Texas.
I love scrap bins, if for no reason other than 'fingering the fabric.'
One day when my daughter came to visit and I was busy I heard her ask he dad"What's Mom so grumpy about". I heard him reply, "She probably needs to go to the quilt shop and finger the fabric, she hasn't been lately". So now my daughter and I don't say we are going to the quilt shop we just say we are goint to finger the fabric......... how about e-mailing me a little TExas sunshine?....

I love the scrap bin! That is how my problem started with my containers of fabric! I bought all the pretty ones to put in my 'some day' pile and now there are quite a few! I just found out that my LQS has a basket of leftovers that you can buy by the pound. I've been trying to figure a way to get down there and 'finger' the fabric. You can always tell a fabric addict because they walk through rows with their finger tips out to touch fabric or rub it between their thumb and finger!

The scrap basket as my LQS was a life saver when I was doing my Apple Core the tradtional way -- 900 different fabrics! Mine sells it by the bag -- if you can close the bag, the whole thing is yours for $4 - the bag's just a little larger than a quart size and you'd be amazed how much you can get into one!

Hi Armywife and welcome! We were in Austin today because my son was with the Skills group doing a mock session in the House of Representatives at the Capitol (it was so impressive). Saw the cutoff from I-35 to Killeen (where my son also goes for a conference every year). We are going back that way soon to visit with my brother and his wife and vist the outlet mall in Round Rock. I usually stop at every Walmart I see but today I was traveling with my ex to watch our son. I love to go to Joanns when they are having the 50 percent off of the red tag because the remnants become super cheap.

I always go through the scrap bin at Walmarts. Sometimes I find something, sometimes I don't.

Hi, armywife! I am a retired army wife as of last April, DH and I were in Killeen when we first got married, almost 21 yrs ago.

I love the scrap bin. I was in New Braunfels yesterday for my first visit to Oak Leaf Quilt shop and was surprised to find bags of scraps for $5.00 a bag. They contain at least 1 yard of LQS quality fabric that is left over from when they cut out kits. I live in Converse, just outside of San Antonio and drive up to New Braunfels about once a month to visit the 2 quilt shops up there.

Walmart's scrap bin and I are also good friends. I always stop and check out their scrap bin and their markdown fabrics, you never know what you'll find.

I love scrap bin. Each time I go to Walmart, I check what's in there. I have a lot of scrap bin and use them a mostly for small projects like placemats, baby quilts, gifts, etc...

Welecome Armywife, I always have to look in the scrap bin. I have a SMALL quilt shop(more like a hole in the wall) about 15 miles away. She has some pretty neat things in this little basket of goodies. I have found some good bargains in the bin at Walmart too. I'm always looking for a good buy.

I always seem to arrive at the scrap bin just after someone got all the good stuff ... and before anything good gets tossed in. My friends show me what they were lucky to find, but I never see anything I can use. Maybe I just can't visualize what could be done with some of the pieces. :(
