Flying geese ruler ?

Anyone know when you are making the flying geese with the small ruler how big do you cut the two squares? I know the how to and all that but I don't know the size. I want to end up with 3x6 geese.

7 1/2 and 9........... I put the numbers on my ruler in dark black ink then taped over them so they won't rub/wear off....just in case I misplace the paper work with the sizes they are always on the rulers.
