I do not go to W/M often. I will make a trip next weekend to see about the fabric.I have picked up fabric there. I am sure to feel it and give it a good look. I do try to buy at my LQS because I want it to stay in business. I hope they still have cotten yarn. I need that for kniting dish cloths.

Happy Quilting.....Kathy

I have bought some really nice fabric from Walmart but at my quilters guild they say to buy only quilt shop quality fabric. So I feel guilty that I buy some from walmart cause it isn't a quilt store. But some of the fabric is good quality, you can't tell the difference.

I am from a small community in Washington that has a super store - several years ago they told us the fabric department was going to be discontinued - everyone advised to call or email Walmart requesting they not discontinue the fabric department and it is still open.

Walmart has however discontinued selling dmc embroidery thread in the last two months. We again have been advised to protest.

Other than Walmart and a fabric store (a bit expensive) I would have to drive 80 miles to get fabric, embroidery threat, etc.

Our WM is in the process of building a new Super WM, and the word went out last week that they will not be having a craft/fabric department.

It's about an hour away for another WM... depending on the fabric and quality, I will buy it for some projects.... but I also get my notions there (but I've quit buying C&C thread - my machine doesn't like it at all - too much lint).

I'm going to be getting some fabric for the rental house curtains there (2 yds at $2-4 is cheaper than pre-made curtains)... best be getting off my butt and getting it.

The new store is going to open sometime in March.

I have the number, if anyone wants to call and put their 2 cents in for having the fabric department in this particular store.

The Super WalMart stores in Ar and Mo are closing their fabric departments unless they are located near an Amish community. In that case they will only carry solids. We have lost our Hancocks and now must drive 90 miles for fabric. We have also heard that Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's will be downsizing in the next year.

I heard the same thing about our walmart when they did a super center but they still have a fabric dept. Right across the parking lot is a Joann super center. Truth be told though I have started buying a lot on the internet. Although you have to pay shipping you can get some beautiful fabric. Ebay is a good source for fabric and I have noticed QIAD has some really reasonable deals.

Our WalMarts still have fabric. At least for now. I do tend to buy fabric there. Only because they have some of the same brands that JoAnn's does...at a lower price.

Our Wal-Mart said they will keep the fabric dept. It is about 10-12 miles east of me and I really hardly every go out there anymore.

when they started carrying sewing machines, I was the one encouraging them to put in sewing tables. Don't carry them any more - so will have to get on the stick.
