Anyone remember my coffee mug of the month quilt? I had gotten the blocks done, sewn together with sashing, began the borders....then got stuck! Tried a narrow border all 'round of dark brown...didn't work. Tried black...didn't work. Stuffed it into a plastic bag in frustration sometime in the spring or summer...and it sunk to UFO status.
It was calling to me yesterday, so I got it out. Who'd have thought that a wide border of the sashing fabric would have worked...but it does. It recedes into the background and draws attention to all my PAINSTAKINGLY PAPER PIECED mugs. Yaaaaaay!
It still seems to need something, so I have an idea for another border that echoes the pattern in the border and shashing fabric, and brings in a bit more color. Have to brainstorm it some more, but I think it will work fine.
I am SO pleased to move this project from the UFO list to the WIP list!
How are everyone else's UFOs doing? Any resolutions for completion?

khoward, great directions.
I have made a cover before and my method of keeping them together is similar to yours. I just sew a single piece of ribbon to the comforter and one to the cover and then tie them together. I measure the width of the comforter and then place the ribbon 1/4 of the measurement from the corner.
I think your placement is better, no need to measure anything, just attach to the corners.

Carol,
glad to hear that you have been re-inspired to finish your mug quilt. I hope we can see it soon.
I pulled out a couple of projects from my ufo stack yesterday but could not get inspired to work on them yet.

Tried posting a photo of my coffee mug o' the month quilt top, but the computer was acting up and didn't "recognize" the photo...whatever the heck that means!
Will have to try again when DH has the time to help.

Carole, maybe the color of the binding will set off the mug quilt.
I finished the tractor quilt and it turned out really well, but the camera is no where to be found. Boohoo.
I got out the fabric for country lanes quilt. I've had it for quite a while. Got sidetracked with a baby quilt. Maybe next week. LOL

The coffee mug quilt is coming along quite nicely....YAAAAY! Added the first border of just background/sashing fabric...set off the blocks nicely...still needed a touch of something...so the outer border is going to be squares of the fabrics I used for the cornerstones, alternating with the background fabric. The background fabric is printed in little squares, reminded me of kitchen tile, so the squares in the border are a nice tie-in.
I love this funny little quilt

I'm so glad it is finally coming together!
Please, dear forum friends, remind me in the future: NO MORE starting projects that I don't have a pattern for! That is a sure road to UFO-dom for me.
Maybe I need to take a class in designing quilts?

CaroleJ your quilt will be wonderful. And look at it this way, it will be a 1 of a kind and you can take credit & pleasure of putting it together the way you did. I bet it will be a fantastic quilt.
Hugs
PS. I remember Ami Simms saying once when she visited a Guild meeting I went to, that sometimes these quilts we have to blunder though with out a pattern and go along figuring it out as we go, make the most stunning quilts. I can see that being true but I've not personally had that happen. Mine have ended up being being kept out of sight. LOL

I don't know if the coffee mug quilt could be called "stunning", but I sure think it's cute and fun...
Need to decide on the binding fabric. Have 2 dark browns here that are possibles; I think black would be too harsh.
I may make companion pieces to go with, a pieced coffee pot, and the other with a sugar bowl and creamer? Have LOTS of fabric left over; those could be fun to make, too!

I really love the idea of the companion pieces to go with this quilt Carole! That would be perfect!!!!! I have kicked myself over & over for not doing this swap so I might as well put this on to do list. *sigh* Not near enough time for all the things I want to make. Be sure to post a pic when you are done.
