Quilt in a Day Forums

I have these blue and white blocks hanging around for 2 years. The blocks are all different sizes and just scared about putting them together. I have the layout but have cold feet. What is the best way to handle this?

The best way is just to DO it. LOL There are no quilt police.

I agree with Sandy(sunsup), just do it! Some of the best quilts are those that are just put together as you go.

I am working on an 8 year old quilt as you go lap quilt and hope to have it finished over the weekend. All I have to do is put the binding strips over the seams in the back of the quilt and the outer binding. I will post pictures when I am finished.

A couple of questions. BLocks of different sizes -- is this like 6" 9" and 12" blocks or simply blocks that came out different sizes but were supposed to all be the same size?

2nd question: Is the layout something you designed or something you bought?

I guess I have one more question, can you identify what it is that is causing you to hesitate?

If you have the layout planned, I'd encourage you to just go for it! What the hey, you have a seam ripper, right?! LOL Do some Lamaze breathing, deep and slow, relax, and jump right in!

If it helps to hear this, I am working on a pieced wallhanging right now. This week I have spent quite a bit of time picking stitches, cutting new pieces, and re-sewing! It got a bit dicey there because some of my fabrics were just scraps and I didn't have extra in the event of a major WHOOPS. But it was okay, it's only fabric. It's nothing earth-shattering if I goof up. As a matter of fact, a pieced heart came out *crooked* and got right by my usual eagle eye! DH and eldest spotted it. I ain't taking it out!

I came up with an applique' to cover a cutting error. Another seam allowance issue...<heavy sigh>...but at least the applique' looks intentional...the more I look at it, the more I like it.

Too bad we can't fix problems in life as easily as we can fix problems in our quilts!

Carol, I have done the applique to cover the cutting error trick before too. I was making a winter wallhanging and while clipping threads accidentally cliped the background fabric. I added an extra holly leaf and it looks as if that is how it is supposed to be.LOL

Ann, I found some fabric printed with wolves (my totem animal) that is going on the back of the piece. I turned one of them into an applique' and it looks like it is peeking out from beneath a tree...I opened one seam to secure the bottom edge; plan to hand stitch around the rest with itty-bitty likkle stitches to look like fur...

Both lap size charity quilts got done and I'm trying to catch up on the pieces for a mystry quilt.

Carol, sounds like you came up with the perfect solution.

I wasn't able to get as much work done on my ufo as I had wanted to but I will continue doing the binding strips throughout the week.

I finished my daughter-in-law's quilt today...photo posted in photo section. I have two more to go, three if you count DJ's mystery sampler.
