Wouldn't this be a great pattern for an I Spy quilt:

Does any one else have a pattern in mind?

Here's a great free pattern site with an I Spy pattern. This was posted for the scrap quilt challenge on chit chat. It looks real easy!! If you wanted you could cut the blocks into 4 to make your squares go further.

I started looking for fabric tonight. I wanted to get some fabric to fussy cut, but am having a problem finding anything. I have found a lot of fabric that has overall patterns. Is anybody else having this problem? Does anybody mind getting overall patterns?

Thanks, Sharon V.

I found overall patterns but the pictures are small enough that an entire cat or dog will be in it.

I haven't started looking yet but I'm fine with overall patterns. I will probably fussy cut one and have the other fabric be an all over design.

The lady at my lqs said that fussy cut is now being called designer cut. I like fussy cut better.

we no sooner learn what a fabric, notion, sewing foot or other item is and then they change the name of the blasted things!!! I guess they think if they change the name they can pass it off as someting 'new' then it will start selling again. I am thinking about doing some line embroidery blocks. I wanted to do one charm fussy cut and the other overall. Just finding the fabric is frustrating. You all just may get a tone on tone with something embroidered on it.

I haven't found fabric yet either. If the novelty fabrics don't arrive in time I'll just pick a red and a cream. I saw a nice red one with roses but the roses were a little big for 5" charms. I saw a really nice cream with gold swirl that I will probably go back and get. If the noveltys do come in I'll probably do 2 that "go" together.

I already have some fabric from the I Spy's I've already done. I also picked up a few Saturday when shopping with Fabricangel and QuiltRunner. Most of mine are all over prints. They are easier to find and you don't have to fussy cut them so you don't waste fabric. And they look cute in the quilt, too.

I like the idea of 6.5" squares. Easier to "fussy cut". I also have a couple patterns I have used in making charity quilts for children that use the 6.5" squares. Anxious to get started. Picture quilts are my absolutely favorite to make.
