Tip: I learned this from a Paducah and Houston muliple quilt show winner. Always start your binding on the left front side of the quilt.

The reason was 99% of quilt judges are right handed so they pick up the right side to flip the quilt to look at the back.

Re: Do you have a favorite tip to share?
Here's another favorite tip. I thought to post because I used it this morning.
When you rip out stitches and have all the tiny bits of thread left in the seam, don't spend time picking them out, erase them! Use a big pink school eraser to take them out fast. I usually use a pencil with the big add on cap eraser. It makes it so much easier then using your finger to pick all those threads out. I found Fons and Porter's big red and white seam ripper has a handle that works great to remove the threads like an eraser.

GREAT THREAD!!
I have wire shelves over my sewing machine. I use metal shower curtain hooks and small binder clips to hold everything I need to keep where I can see it ( and not lose it in a pile of stuff). I hook the shower curtain hook over the bar then hang the binder clip (which holds items without harming them) by its little handle holes on the shower curtain hooks.

Don't think I have seen either of these posted here so thought I would share.
I have used Glad Press and Seal wrap for marking quilting designs. It adheres to the quilt, sew right through it. It can be a bit tricky picking out some of the bits in tight spaces, but wortth the trouble.
Also, if you need to clean up a quilt, lots of stray threads and such on it that you gather while working, again use the Glad Press and Seal wrap, enough tackiness to gather them right up.

Such wonderful ideas!
Like Geneva2 - I use plastic containers. I use the small ones the lunch meat comes in. Great for needles and small items. I love the idea of the honey jar. I'll remember that one.
swakin - a posty note on your desktop. GREAT idea and I too spend more time at my computer than sewing. But love both! Can't remember what i did with my life before computers. OH I worked!!! LOL
Thanks everyone for sharing. I don't have anything unique to offer but love reading what you have!
Hugs, Kathy

Hi all love the thread I use a red ribbon tied in a bow on a safty pin to put on my shirt to remind me that I have the iron on (one day I left it on for a couple of days)
and if you hand quilt or just sewing the binding on run your thread and needle thru a dryer sheep a couple of times to keep it from tangling up that one I use alot Tina

Re: Do you have a favorite tip to share?
I am new to quilting, but not sewing) and just loved all these hints. I keep and empty tissue box on the table to put scraps etc in when I am cutting. When I am finished, I open from the bottom and dump directly into the trash can. Then I tape the bottom closed to use for the next project.

Hmm
I use makeup brushes to delint the machine.
3m hooks to hold my rulers and smaller frames.
a remote controller holder (made from placemats) to hold a variety of stilettos, seam rippers, etc. (placed under the machine, pockets in the front)
a couple rubber doorstops under the back of the machine to change the angle.
Like knitnoid, I have a binder with all the ruler instructions in sheet protectors.
