I wash everything except charm squares and jelly rolls. Also use Shout color catcher sheets when washing them to prevent color runs.
Also, do not use fabric softener on your fabrics when washing or drying.

Subjects like this one and the ol' question about "which machine is best" always brings out pretty strong opinions. My opinion is this.....
Wash if you want to
Don't wash if you don't want to

There is no right or wrong answer, it's an individual thing :o) Amie

I did not even know that the Shout Color catchers even existed until I read about them here. I do not know who posted about them but I Thank Whoever it was. I think they are a wonderful thing. I tend to live in my own little world I guess and don't just browse the aisles at the stores. So, whoever posted about the Shout Color Catchers.... THANK YOU so very much.

We had a discussion about this very subject at my quilt group meeting last week. One of the girls said "If I want to do laundry, I do laundry - if I want to sew, I sew!" LOL

I might wash some fabric if it feels very stiff with sizing or if it's a very dark colour, but I don't usually wash everything. Janie

I never wash mine but when each time I give 1 away I include a box of shout color catchers with the gift and along with washing instructions and never had a problem yet .

I wash everything, charms, & whatever, cause I always have & don't want to worry about it. Gentle cycle, cold water, & I use the little lingerie bags for charms & fqs. I also use fabric softner & the color catcher sheets, they are great & worth every penny. Like another said, wash if you want, or don't wash, the choice is yours. I just got use to this when I use to just sew, mainly my own clothes, so it's natural for me to do it now, & it doesn't get removed from the shopping bag & put away till it has been washed & dried...

Don't wash fabrics unless I am unsure of the dye. Even with the price of fab. today, one can never be sure if it will fade or run, so I use the color wash sheet, just in case.

happymrs - I'm with you. Fabric doesn't make it back to my sewing room until it's been washed and dried.

I am a washer. Even before I started quilting, and was just doing general sewing nothing made it into my sewing room without being washed. To this day I still wash everything even though it is all shop quality fabric.

I am not a washer - well most of the time. If the fabric is dark and/or appears to overdyed, then it gets the sink rinse to see if it runs. I like the look of my quilts when they shrink up after quilting and use. So the batt and the fabric both shrink its OK with me.
