Re: Any interest in a different kind of swap????
Is the focus fabric supposed to be a certain color? If we only have one partner all throughout the swap it probably doesn't matter as much as if we have different partners for each block. In other words, if you said blue was the focus color, would you be thinking light blue, navy blue, colonial blue, bright blue, etc.? Or maybe that wouldn't matter much... Maybe it would matter more whether you use white or cream/off-white in the blocks. What do the rest of you think?

I think it would make a bigger difference if the focus color was a white or cream, those look so different when they are together. But if I were to pick one focus color, it would have to be forest green, and a pea green, or lime green would look horrible if all the others used the forest green.
So I guess what I am saying is that should be up to the individual.

Re: Any interest in a different kind of swap????
What I meant by 'focus fabric' was that each person participating in the swap would decide what colors they wanted - like I could select red/green (for a Christmas look) and Donna could select blue - and each of us would get a quilt of their selected colors in the end.
If we switched partners for every block, then the costs would be more....but if everyone understands that, then I'm ok with running the swap that way. It's the way I originally was going to do it, but I was concerned about the cost.

Re: Any interest in a different kind of swap????
I'm a little confused...why would it cost more to have a different "partner" for every block?? If you make a block every 2 weeks and send it it doesn't really matter WHO you send it to. And if you "save up" the blocks and send them all at once it MIGHT be cheaper. To me, a little bit of money every 2 weeks is easier to "budget" than a bigger amount all at once. Maybe I haven't had enough coffee yet...
I really like donnacrazylady's idea to have a different "swapper" for every block..a real sampler block of everyone's work!

If this is the concensus, then we'll change every block... I'll leave this open for a couple more days.
Personally, I like the idea of changing, and maybe if I post everyone's color selection then that would help!

I think she means the cost would be more because we may have to purchase more fabric if it is something/color we don't have. Wouldn't need more than a FQ though. I think most of us have a fair selection and extra purchases wouldn't be necessary for most blocks. At least that is what I am hoping.

Thanks, We for the clarification!
I guess it would depend on what you have in your "stash". I know it's cheaper for me to use my stash--and if I would have to do 12 blocks in one certain colorway, chances are that I would definately have to buy some fabric, whereas if I had a new partner each time I might get by with just what I have already.
This is a great idea, though, almost like a lotto but with EVERYONE winning enough blocks for a quilt! The down side to us switching partners is that is more work for CindyB...and more chance of someone not following through.

Re: Any interest in a different kind of swap????
CindyB - If we have a different partner for each block, does that cause a problem with having a new block every two weeks? Would it be easier to post the new block on the 1st and 15th, or would that just be more confusing than watching for a new block every other Monday or Saturday or which ever day you were planning on? You'd have to PM each of us each time to let us know who our partner is and that could get time consuming. We could send you our email addresses and you could send us a list of all the addresses at the start of the swap. Then all you'd have to do is post a list of who is partnered with who for a certain block, and then we just look at the list for that person's address.
I also thought that this swap could still happen even if only a few people sign up. We would just have more than one block from a particular swapper. Just thinking 'out loud.'

CindyB, This sounds like a fun swap and intersting swap. Another suggestion might be instead of changing partners every block, maybe change after 2 blocks. That way you would still get a variety of blocks then you would have time to send out the new partners and addresses.
