Re: quilting for a charity
Just a quick update...I have completed seven small quilts for Garden of Innocence. I dropped off three a few weeks ago, with a note. Got a nice phone call back, with thanks and compliments. Since then, I have finished four more; they are here, waiting to be donated.
I needed something to pull me out of a personal slump and it was so helpful to me to get more involved with charity work! Sometimes I just need something to focus on, other than my own moans and groans.

Re: quilting for a charity
Carole, I would really like to make some quilts for the Garden of Innocence... could you tell me how you make the quilts... before I moved back to San Diego my old guild used to make baby blankets for baby's in China, who were in orphanages. But they were rather simple... most of the time we just took 1 yard of fabric, squared it up and put on a wide border. Then we quilted them and put binding on and they were ready to go... they were always bright and cheery and much appreciated! Let me know how you usually make yours... I mean pattern wise... I am really glad I came across this post!!!
Cheers!

Alina, the organization asks that the quilts be about 30 by 30 inches, quilted, knitted, or crocheted. I make mine out of 6 1/2" unfinished squares, four across and four down, then add a 2 1/2" border all 'round. I have done rail fence, pinwheels, snowball, and alternating plain and 4 patch blocks. The pattern depends on the fabric I'm using; some of the slightly larger prints I just can't bear to cut up too much, they are so sweet.
I use the quick turn method (no binding needed) and tie them with embroidery floss.

Carole... Thanks a bunch for the info... I have been looking for something to be able to contribute to... this is something that really touched my heart and made me really appreciate my two healthy boys! I have so much extra fabric, a lot of it baby flannel that I would love to make into something special for some special little angels! Do you put labels on them?
Thanks!

No, I don't label them, but I do say prayers over them while I am putting them together.
