Re: What I've been working on
Thanks everyone for your complements!
My son gets to come home in a couple of months for vacation. But he doesn't know for sure yet when he gets to come home for good.
For the Round Robin, the Holly Leaves are raw edged, fused in place, then button hole stitched around and red beads for the berries. On that border, I used Kona solids for both the leaves and the background. I've started using Kona a lot in my quilting.
The stars are the Friendship Stars and they are pieced with the background the same material as the borders. I didn't think to take a close up of them to show that they are pieced.
quiltwithmom, is there a quilt store near you that offers classes? I'm still only comfortable with stitch in the ditch and meander. The vine stitch was my first attempt and I thought it would be easy, but I found out I need more practice!

Evie, I absolutely love your idea with the dog tag message. I had made a stocking of my son in the Marines last christmas from Walmart Marine fabric. I wish I had your idea then. Very Cool!!!....Peg

Man, Evie, everything you've posted here is beautiful. I love the round robin quilt. How large do the round robin quilts wind up being?

Cindyg, I think this one wound up being around 32" square. You start out with a center block that can measure anywhere from 12" square to 18" square. Then it depends on the size of the borders how large it will be.
It is fun trying to decide what to do to them. I changed my mind several times before adding the borders.

They have the kit on sale right now:

Do you have the pattern?
I bought the charm pack and the FQ bundle. I made it a little longer, by making 3 more large 9 patches. Looks like the kit is a good bargin since it includes the pattern which normally sells for $9. It's on sale for $32.87. If the link doesn't work, just look under kits, then under Magic Vine.
Minkee is very soft, softer than velvet and makes a good, snuggley backing.

I love the tossed 9 patch (now I know what you all were talking about on another post). It's very tempting to buy that kit, but I'm trying not to add another project until I finish some of projects-in-waiting in my closet.
Your quilting looks good on it too. Your round robin quilt came out very nice also. Thanks for sharing! Lori
