Well, got my book yesterday. I am going to start my first block this weekend. Wonder how long until I drive myself to drink? Wish me luck.

Sherry, There is a blog to help you decide how to put them together. It is That Quilt.blog spot. Let me know if you can not find it. Also, I do not have the rulers. Don't think you need them.
You go girl, Just learn to drink those bloody Mary's while working on your blocks. LOL It will help save your sanity. Let me know if I can help you.

Got another question for you Janiacs. I read through all of the preliminary parts of the book before the blocks. I can see most of the blocks are going to have to be hand-pieced. Are you doing all of them by hand or are you machine piecing any of them? I plan on machine piecing as many as I can because to be honest I don't like to hand-piece. I took a class at Houston Quilt Festival in 2011 to try to improve my skills. The class was good, but i still don't like to hand-piece. If I machine-piece some will that be ruining the spirit of the Dear Jane Quilt? I know this probably sounds like a stupid question, but i don't know how else to word it. Thanks for your help.

i don't think there is anything wrong in using your machine... in this day and age, theres no problem in that.
i've been using my machine on most and hand sewing the ones that require hand sewing. there is needle turn, and a lot can be 'pp' also.
take a look at the link i put on here, it's very helpful :)

before i began quilting in earnest, i used to think that machine sewing quilts was criminal. i was shot down in flames by the people thats i talked to at our local quilt show lol!!!!
now i've come to realise, we're living in modern times, and it just helps with speed :)

i say use your machine, and don't worry :)
and have fun!!!

Sherry, Both MaryZ and I machine stitch ours. The only hand work we do is the applique. I also have paper pieced some of the blocks.
I saw Mary's blocks today and they are awesome. The fabric is beautiful and the blocks themselves are perfect. She makes me want to get back to my poor Jane in my closet. Maybe soon.

CAROLE - you liar! my blocks perfect? haha!! You missed seeing a lot of them then! lol!!

JACQUIE - with my DH's help I did put that link at the top. Thanks for the suggestion!

SHERRY - we're supposed to enjoy quilting. 'Jane' is a really ambitious project. If you don't enjoy the method you're using, you will most likely never finish your quilt. I'm sure Jane would have used a machine if she'd had one! Personally, I think I'd be doing good to get it finished even if I had a magic wand!! LOL!! So like the others said, relax and enjoy, and use whatever method you like best.

JODY - So?? How are you and your sister doin'? . . .

Shelly. Jane was drinking everything in sight when she was trying to decide on what her next quilt project was going to be. And she came up with all these 5 inch blocks.
Lol
