I just finished reading on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. It is a book by Mark Haddon, who is one of may favorite authors. I like how a serious story took its turns to be a comedy and light hearted. It is about a boy named Christopher and his search for the one who killed the neighbor's dog, which he was pressed as a suspect for. But because of his weird antics, he was bailed out. Give it a read, it is interesting.

Hello, I just joined QIAD! vising my husbands parents I got turned onto the world of quilting, Im a quilt virgin but looking forward to jumping in.
Ive always loved sewing and other crafts, I have 2 quilts that were given to me over the years and always thought it would be fun to do, Im an avid scrapper and card maker, so when I saw a tutorial on a Quilt Card I thought ahh this is pretty and Im sure easy ha..... at that point I got a quick lesson on the art of quilting. the card was lovely but took a few times to get the squares and geese all even,. im looking forward meeting new friends, and learning from experienced teachers
now on about the book....... Im in the middle of "The Help" its a great book one that grabs you right from the start! I can see why they wanted to make a movie! another favorite author is nora Roberts and Janet Evanovich. ttyl jewls :D

Hey, Jewls! Welcome! We're always glad to see new 'faces' around here! Have you joined us in the sew-in yet? That's where we sort of coffee-klatch and chat daily about anything and everything. We love new folks!

I love Janet Evanovich, too. I've had her new Wicked Appetite and have been saving it for October as I believe it's Halloweenish. So it's next in my reading queue.

I listen to books on tape while I sew, clean, cook, garden, etc. I just finished two in this past week. Joanne Fluke's Carrot Cake Murder. I like murder mysteries but I like them couched in cozy. Hannah Swenson and her friends are some of my favorite sleuths. But not all my choices are so tame. I wrapped up Kathy Reich's "Fatal Voyage" this afternoon. Her books are the basis for the TV series Bones (which has little resemblance to her book characters). It was a good read (listen) and did keep me on the edge of my sewing chair. She's a bit like Patricia Cornwell, only not quite so much. and if you've read Cornwell, you understand what I mean by that.

Well, I read a couple of Patterson's books...he's a great writer and the books were good..but just too graphic and serious crime for me. Too close to "real life", I guess! lol!

Guess I'm just hooked on the "cozy" stuff!

Welcome, Jewls! I've read all of Nora Roberts years ago..and Evanovich too.

Hi, went to a sidewalk book sale yesterday. I picked up: Heartbreaker by Julie Garwood, A Painted House by Grisham and one by Sandra Brown. I also picked up 2 by J.A. Jance. My bill came to a grand total of $4.50, oh I forgot, DH picked something up too. I don't know which one to start first!!

I just finished listening to an audio book by J.A. Jance - "Fire and Ice". She's a terrific author and a pretty neat gal. I've been fortunate to meet her a few times. She lives part time in Seattle and part time in AZ. This book combined her main characters of her two best known series of books - Joanna Brady and J.P. Beaumont. Jance is known for using real places in her stories. And this book was no different. The two storylines in this book - one in AZ and one in WA - connected and finally came to a climax in Gig Harbor where I live. and it all went down only a mile or two from my house! Exciting, but a bit unsettling, I must say! For anyone who is a Jance fan, it's a good read - or a great 'listen' while sewing!

MaryZ, I just finished that book and I was thinking of you while reading it. I just picked up two more of her books(older)at a sidewalk sale. They're easy reads and now I have to find a similar author because I need to broaden my horizon plus I think I've just about read all of her books! Lucie
