Since I couldn't, for the life of me, seem to settle on a block design, I went to the fabric store yesterday, accompanied by the Ladies' Guild (my mom and my 2 daughters) to see if I could be inspired by fabric and colors. I had forgotten what a good eye Ma has for color, even at 84! So that's where my 10 year-old got it from! I mean, I'm good, but those two are exceptional...it's like the right fabric jumps out at them as I am standing there agonizing--! Finally settled on a fall print with browns, reds, golds, and a bit of green, and 3 "go withs": a brown, a green, and a light tan. Very lovely.

I still need to settle on a block design!! Aieee! DH is hoping for Contrary Wife--the turd! I will mull this over some more today, searching for a block that will allow me to use the print as a centerpiece.

Lordy, I am SO happy to be quilting again!!

Evie, yeah, I have noticed one block will have multiple names, like Churn Dash is the same as the Garden Gate...I was just being paranoid about copyright infringement or something like that--LOL!

I bought a book of block patterns yesterday, all 12" blocks--! Still thinking about designing my own...the idea of an earthquake block is kind of appealing; being a native Californian, it's definitely an appropriate theme!

I'd love to see the blocks as they're made! Might give some inspiration. :)

Oh, Carole, I can see an earthquake block..... make a strip with all colors, and slash at different angles, turn upside down and sideways, cut to about 12-2/4" (so that people can square to 12-1/2" or the size that fits all the 20 blocks they get back!)

Yep. That's a neat Tennessee block, but it's paper piced. So far, I'm sticking with the one from quilters cache, but I'm thinking I might not have enought of the original fabric I wanted to use. Anyone know how much fabric 20 twelve inch blocks takes?

Oh CindyB, you're cracking me up with your quilt block names! LOL! I ordered a book awhile back about Georgia quilt blocks, the history of them and all these antique blocks, etc... I ordered it before this swap, so I really hope it arrives soon with some good ideas for a block from Georgia. If not, I have the Georgia block from that one website printed out. I don't think the appliqued peach in the center will work for me now, I'm using this gorgeous fall colored Thimbleberries fabric with oak leaves and acorns (Georgia is full of big old oak trees.) In fact, there's a big old granddaddy oak tree in my back yard that is ancient! We had a tree surgeon come out once to fix it because a storm took down one of the large limbs, and when they hauled it off they said the limb weighed 2 tons after it was all cut up. Anyway, they told us the tree was 300 yrs. old, now whether that's true or not I don't know, sounds a little exaggerated to me, but that's what they said. I know it's seen some history, for sure, and I sure wish it could talk! My DH, myself and our two grown sons once joined hands around that tree and we were finger-tip to finger-tip around it...it is magnificent. And every other year we are literally covered in acorns, they come tearing down and hit the skylights and I duck and yell "incoming!" Scares the dog to death. Well, I got long-winded yet again...I could've just said I was going with an oak tree and acorn theme, couldn't I????!!!!! Oh well, that's just not my way! LOL!

GP, when I "hear" you talk I think of that TV show that was on several years ago "Designing Women." I loved that show!
