Hello everyone, my name is Bella and I am new to the Quilt in a day community. This topic caught my eye because it is something I have had a problem with in the past. Recently however, I realized why making fabric, particularly color choices, have been difficult for me. I have been a people pleaser my whole life, so much so that I rarely ever thought to ask what “I” liked. So the last few times I have been at the fabric store, I ignored all fabric that did not catch my eye and resonate with something inside of me.
I am very familiar with the color wheel and for a long time I based all my artistic decisions around its principles. Now however, I use my inner “ding”. That little sensation inside of me that says, “yeah…now that’s me!”
Choosing fabric is as intimate as choosing what clothes to wear each day: We all have our own preferences that fit our personality. I view fabric like this; it is an extension of who I am.
JMO,
Bella~

WELCOME Bella and Kathy!
I agree with many suggestions here.
I have asked people in the quilt shop for an opinion. Other customers like to help and of course the shop staff usually fall all over you with help, cause they are making a sale. A couple months back Velda and I went to Victoria, TX, during a shop hop. I have a pattern and I wanted to use a certain fabric, that I knew came in several colors. The lady at the quilt shop was fantastic. They had the fabric and she hunted up every color they had, 15-20, and then helped me choose what would go together the best.
Also, go with colors you like.
Lyn
