Re: Wednesday 22 January
Good morning.. it's going to be a beautiful day....
Izzy, in March I will host a red and white swap, you could make blocks and use them in your wedding quilt.. or the Feb lotto is red's and pinks, you could gamble and hope you win....when is the wedding?
Velda, Jerry has often told me about the snow in Illinois.. he loved growing up there. but I don't think he ever warmed up, he still turns the heat up and I turn it down... I love the midwest...
Karlene, I love that you feed your chipmunk... he probably loves it too... Jerry would also leave the lump of drywall on the flat surface...I don't know why they set things down and walk away then hunt for those same things hours later. it does drive me nuts...but I like your description.. point a to point b...
Cindy, I figured it was Don who left the door open but didn't want to accuse him just incase it was you this time...lol... I also have trouble remembering things here.. Just when I think I have it figured out I confuse it...
Sherry, I am a to the penny kind of a person too.. not sure why I married my polar opposite..
Jana, I know it's cold there but I bet it's much calmer than it was in Cali...
Kathy, Jerry got me a laptop for Christmas and I love it... I have netflix and watch movies while I sew.. it is wonderful and not too expensive.
Chickie, I laughed at Cindy too.. being the resident chain yanker.. we also have a resident goat farmer we are quite a group.... I am sorry you were called so many things regarding your weight, if I were there now I'd hug your neck... Personally I think you're beautiful but don't think I've ever seen a picture of you...xo
Jules, I was wondering where you've been... it's good to see you.. glad Charley is getting her car all fixed.... happy embroidery machine playing...
Lois, glad you're not going out to play in the snow.
Sooz.... glad we have a resident rambler to add to our resident goat farmer and chain yanker... I also have a son he is 25...I love your fabric choices.. I have so much trouble finding the right fabric.
Teresa, I misspoke... yes, I am the resident mis-spoker...lol... you do the SP swap however you see fit.. it's yours, you have been handed the gavel.
Becca, it's too hot for soup here... wish it weren't... I love soup.
Maryq.. ugh, more snow..
I really need to get to work.. where does the time go?
you all have a fun day,
crhiss

Re: Wednesday 22 January
Good morning! We are cold here this morning, and the pond has a glaze of ice. Yesterday we had four Canada geese spend the entire day on and around the pond. Looks like it’s “Closed for Swimming” today. Since the forecast for tonight is 8 degrees, I guess the closed sign will remain for several days. Too bad. I enjoy watching the geese and ducks out my window.
After returning from town yesterday, DH went to his shop to work on rental stuff and I went to the sewing machine. I completed the appliqué on the bird house blocks and started on the embroidery. I didn’t get too far, but they are coming along.
I have no idea what is on the “official” agenda today. I plan on a shower, brunch, and working on something quilty. DH may have other plans for me.
Jules—So good to see you again! You are going to have so much fun with your embroidery machine! Congratulations on your weight loss—I found it on my hips.
Chriss—You have seen pictures of me… with MaryZ, with Scrappy Pat, with the Wild Woman Jacket… I was an accountant and could balance company accounts to the penny; when it comes to my own checkbook I started rounding up and made a “savings stash” for me that didn’t show to my late DH. He believed in spending every penny, and I had to find ways to rat hole money for the inevitable rainy day.
Judi—I am so glad I’m not up North your way or Chrissy’s way. I cannot get warm this winter. Odie moved to the spot in the bed that I vacated.
MaryQ—too funny about your getting a snow day! Isn’t every day in the winter up there a snow day? Be safe out there! I’m so glad I don’t have to go to work any more in snow and ice. You have a position where they can’t shut down for a snow storm—you are necessary!
Becca—this is a good soup day. I need to see what I can find to throw in a pot. Maybe a chili day… You are right that Scrap48 is probably laughing from Winnipeg—she has to be hardy to live up there! That’s how she makes pretty quilts.
Scrap48—I know that your zero is our 32 degrees… still -39C is too darn cold for anyone to be outside! Enjoy your day curled up with your sewing and your kitty. Stay warm and safe!
Izzy—Enjoy your snow day! The university would close for ice because we had a lot of commuter students that drove 75 miles each way. I love teapots, too. It’s OK for you to kiss your goats. I kiss my cow, Timi, but don’t tell anyone. I have laundry today, too.
Suzette—be safe out there today! How many radiation treatments will you have? I hope your friend’s knee replacement goes well with her Lyme. My friend has had both knees replaced, and it made all the difference in her getting around and working.
Teresa—Hope you rest up for the rest of the tennis matches! I’m sure your rocking chair is beautiful.
Sooz—You will soon have your fabric stash established. I’m surprised that it doesn’t take long at all. I lost everything in a fire 5 years ago last weekend. From the looks of my stash and UFOs now, it never happened. I miss a lot of my fabrics, but they were just “stuff” and now I have more and new… Enjoy your new life!!! Eight years ago I retired and moved only 75 miles to start a new life with my new DH. Congratulations and best wishes for many wonderful years together! I love your new fabrics! My DGD loves fashion design—what a delightful quilt you will make.
Lois—10”… yikes! Our cows would not like that a bit. They are staying close to the hay bales that DS1 puts in the feeders. I think it’s prudent that you stay in today!
Scrappy Pat—So good to hear from you! Best wishes on your chemo. Try some Boost with ice cream in it for a yummy milkshake to keep up your strength and get your nutrients. This cold is horrible especially with the high winds. Sometimes it sounds like the roof is coming off. HUGS and prayers!
Yep, it’s late here for me, but I’m off to the shower and sorting the laundry… My coffee cup is empty and I’m starting to feel the caffeine wake up charge that motivates me to get around. I could easily stay in bed and sleep until spring or a size 8…
Enjoy today!

Hi Everyone,
I have to just make this quick this morning. I want to respond to everyone, but my paper tolling class is at 9:30am and it is already 9:00am. Need to eat a little more for breakfast and take my meds. I had a banana, but that is not enough.
I missed class last week, because I got busy on here and forgot. This afternoon is our sewing class at 1PM, so today is going to be a fast one.
SoozG: I get pretty talk-e-talk once in awhile, too. Don’t worry, you fit right in with all of us. We love having you in the group. I love those fabrics you shared. Can’t wait to see what pattern you end up making. Did you say it was the mystery quilt. Mmmmm, that will be interesting.
Teresa: I love doing SP, but I think doing every other month is great. We need to all get in to the Monthly Lottos now and again, so that will be great to do SP on every other month.
Well, I have to run. I will jump back in here later this afternoon.
Lyn and I have a quilt show coming up this weekend over in Rockport. We will keep you posted on that, too.
Hugs
Velda

Re: Wednesday 22 January
Jules - I wish you all the luck with 'beaching the whale'.
Lois - I think that's wise to stay in. You need to walk in places that have traction!
Sooz - love the fabrics. I'll tell you what I did when I got my sewing machine. I already had a Janome MC6600 but I thought I wanted an embroidery machine, too, so I went to a dealer to look at the combo sewing/embroidery machines. I found that the sewing machine part of the combo did not do everything that my 6600 did. The man at the dealer told me that I probably wouldn't be happy with that part of it so I might consider keeping my MC6600 sewing machine and buy an embroidery only machine. That way I could embroider and sew at the same time. Also, if one or the other machine needs to go to the shop I would still have the other at home to work with. So that's exactly what I did and I love it. My sewing cabinet is "L" shaped so my embroidery machine sits to my right and I can embroider labels while sewing my quilt at the same time. I made a quilt with embroidered squares and I did that embroidery while making the quilt blocks on my sewing machine. Congrats on your marriage. What a shame that you left behind all that fabric. What a cryin' shame! Well, you aren't the only rambler here - LOL LOL.
Teresa - where will you be until Feb. 27th??? Someplace fun I hope. I guess I missed it.
Suz - you sure have packed a lot of plans into today. My great-grandmother died from a tick bite.
Izzy - I was just going to say you're lucky to have a snow day off but I guess that you will have to make it up at some point when the weather is better.
Scrap - sounds like you have a neighbor who keeps the rest of the neighbors talking. We use to say "if all else fails, read the instructions" but now I need instructions to read the instructions! LOL
Becca - it is a good soup day. We finished off our taco soup but it sure would be good to have now that it's colder.
Maryq - be extra careful on your way to work today. What will the roads be like when you can leave work? Not too icy, I hope.
Chriss - you are right about Chickie - she is beautiful inside and out. I've seen a picture of her. The outside part, not the inside - HOOT! Opposites attract - that's why you married Jerry. Aren't y'all in a drought? We are still feeling the repercussion of the drought we had summer before last. So many trees died and have had to be cut down. I was looking at our campsite over the weekend and they have had to cut down 9 trees around our campsite alone.
Pat - my doctor told me t he last time I was there that he wasn't going to chew me out for being fat that time because I quit smoking. I reckon he'll be back on my case the next time I go in.
Gotta get busy. I'm at work. Put 2 big pork chops in the crockpot this morning before I left the house. I hope they aren't burnt to a crisp by the time we get home. It was a rush job so they only got water, a little garlic salt and some onion. It is what it is - and we'll have 'em with mashed taters and a veggie of some sort. Gotta have my greenery.
I hope we can all fondle fabric today. Stay warm those of you in frigid areas.

Re: Wednesday 22 January
Good day to all above and below this post.
We will be getting some of that colder weather down here in south Texas in the next few days. If this keeps up we will have to take the Motorhome to the fuel station and refill with diesel. Part of our heating system runs off of diesel, but if the tank gets to 1/4 it will not work. System set up so you have that to drive to next fuel stop. We are below 1/2 and to let ya'll know we have used it alot, we filled up just before pulling into RV park back in late October. It's been a cold winter here, too.
Sooz - WELCOME. Congrat's on marriage. Bummer on fabric. Over in "Swaps" etc., there is a thread "Hints for secret pals" etc. It would be great if you posted there, it would give us some ideas on your likes, interests, etc. Like your fabric choices.
Have to get breakfast for DH. We are not early risers like Velda & her DH, who gets up to wake up the chickens, I think. LOL
Haven't decided if I will work on Birdhouses or Orange Peel Quilt at Sewing group today.
Oh, fishing report from two days ago.....ZERO. We went to a place we call "5 Flats" and not even a bite. Then motored to another of our favorite spots and the water was so low that where we park the boat was out of water, high and dry. The water is very very low and I didn't know there was that much dirt out there. LOL It was windy and cool, so we gave up and came back in at 2:30.

Good Freezing Cold Morning!!
OMG......it's 1'!!! I better wear 2 pair of socks when I shovel! I'm not sure how much there is...less than 12"
Jules.....I can hear the excitement in your 'voice'. Have fun with your new machines. I'm with you too. I need to lose a lot! We should have a BTW group. Anyone interested let me know what you think & I'll can start a thread in ChitChat. We can support & encourage each other.
Lois....have fun with your bird houses. That reminds me Sunday as I was driving gingerly over the snow "3" Robins flew by me. I stopped because I didn't believe it.
SoozG....happy you found a guild. My new one was so friendly. We have a brunch on Sunday at Old Sturbridge Village a historically correct village. Congrats on your wedding!! I'm sad you left your fabric behind but now you can buy all updated prints & colors.
Suzette.....Sorry to hear about your friend. Hope you can make it to your treatment.
Izzy....I like that a 'hand full' of snow. Have a wonderful Snow Day.
scrap48....sorry about your neighbor. Why did he go to court?
Becca.....OH YES..soup! I was thinking about cooking to warm me & the house up.
Maryq....I hope you made it to work OK.
Judi.....thanks for the Chrissy up date. I've been wondering about her. Good for you loosing 4lb. (:(:
Chriss....I do want to be part of the R/W swap. You(me)can never have enough RED! I'm seeing a lap top in my near future. I need someone to help me. I hope DD2 will come thins summer she is really good with computers.
Pat....prayers for you smooth treatment today.
Izzy.....I always use a fresh towel. In my mother's house they were used, dried on the line, folded & put back in closet. It grossed me out. I never knew who used it before me. You've done more than me today.
Love & Prayers to all in need,,,,,,,Kathy
Off to shovel.

Re: Wednesday 22 January
Good Morning,
Kathy - Count me in for the BTW group. Sounds great. We can help each out and share recipes.
Lyn - Can't you just run the furnace on the electric. We have never had to move the coach when we were on electricity. I know you use the gas up if you use your generator. Hmmm listen to me, like I know about this stuff. LOL
Yesterday I walked 7,679 steps. Moving on up to that 10,000 step goal. Not sure Luke is with me on that. LOl We just got back from our walk and he is sound asleep. Lazy dog.
Had a little excitement at my house yesterday. Some friends were walking by and the guy started to get dizzy and he wife took off home to get the golf cart. While she was gone he past out. Called 911 and they took him to the hospital. Still haven't heard what the problem was. Hopefully today Janet his wife will call. Will go up to see him once we find out what is wrong.
Tina - Block went into the mailbox this morning. Get ready for it.
Thanks for the thoughts about my niece. It was a real shock and she was only in her 50's. I can not believe I will never get a private message on FB from her again. She always said "I love you Auntie". She is the only one who called me Auntie. The rest always call me, Aunt Candy or AC. Candy is the nickname my father gave me at birth because I was get ready for it, so sweet. lol So that is what my Michigan friends and family call me.
Well I better get off here if I want to get Blk 12 (many blocks for that month) done.
Judi - BTW - That is how I am going to do my 12th month - traditional.

Re: Wednesday 22 January
Good morning!
Another day here in Paradise! Everything is beautiful - you just can't see it because of the inversion! LOL A line of dirty air hangs over the I-15 corridor, about halfway up my mountains. Oh well, we will wait for the next storm to blow it out of here!
Sooz - welcome! I just moved too - from California to Utah - I was in the Northern half of the state. The first thing that was packed for the move was all of my sewing room - just got it out not long ago and still setting it up here in the Batt Cave - otherwise known as a basement. Love your choice of fabrics for the mystery quilt - I have mine ready to go too - just need to get going on the sewing.
As for my projects this week - a huge misunderstanding between DH and me on the timetable of assembly! LOL He wants to get everything moved out of the storage room and the cold storage area as well so he can seal the concrete floor. So instead of organizing everything - I will be de-organizing - making a mess of the LA area!
Grumble - when I bought the "new" - there was a rebate posted on the sale at Lowe's - well as I go to fill out the paper work for the $100 rebate - I read that the rebate was available to the end of December - last year! I bought the new washer and dryer on the 6th of January! Oh well there goes that cotton money! LOL
My LQS, the one I work for, is starting a Quilt Guild here for the south end of the Valley. The first meeting is Friday night and Guild meetings will be the 4th Friday of each month at the shop - should be very interesting. I have never joined a guild - the one near my house in California was very clickish, so I never joined. The attitude there was that you were not a quilter unless you hand pieced and hand quilted anything and everything. So not me! I like my toys!
Well should get going - I have a quiet day to sew - I am not making a mess yet! LOL
Hugs,
Jana
