I had about 30 different fabrics to choose from. You don't need that many, but I had left over from a B/W that I wanted 30 different fabrics.

Debbie, You sure put all those fabrics together in a very 'pleasing to the eye' way.

I just bought this pattern and would also like to see some other folks ideas with this pattern. I am kind of scared as I don't do scrappy real well. On one of my other lists one of the women did a scrappy quilt and did this whole thing where she used a randome number generator and assigned each color a number, I am resisting being that OCD about it.

Thank you so much for sharing your pink yellow brick road. Pinks are my absolute favorite color. This is a fun pattern, I just need to make sure the next time I concentrate a bit more with the cutting. I still can't figure out how I goofed and didn't have a certain piece. Oh well, it is easy enough to add a spare piece or two to.

OH Sue, it helps us "scrappy-phobes" to find an "inspiration" or an "anchor" fabric...a multi-color print to sort of use as a starting point. Bring in different colors in different values (light, medium, dark) and play with them. You don't necessarily need 25 or 30 different fabrics, unless you want to go that route.
I've done YBRs with 6-8 different fabrics, plus a multi-colored print, and got great results.
I still like the Tossed Nine Patch better, though...similar look and much less cutting.

Re: Yellow brick road photo please
When I made my pink YBR, I was prewashing all of my fabric. As a result, my FQs after washing were not 18 x 22. I found when working on my quilt, there was no room for error, and due to shrinkage I didn't have enough fabric.
The border fabric was not one of my FQs, but I ended up cutting a few pieces of it to include in the center of the quilt to make up for the missing pieces.
I think this was the lap size quilt and it called for 12 FQs. If I make the quilt again, I'll either not wash my FQs or use 13 or 14 FQ, or both.

I made the black and white, then appliqued some big yellow sunflowers on it...really pretty...
