Actually, if you look at the blocks in the photo, there isn't any sashing...the neutral strips between the colored blocks are part of the blocks themselves. The Block Party book shows a block of 4 spools, two on end and two on their sides, but you can set them any way you like.
I would check Quilterscache for this pattern, too, if you don't want to buy a book.

Yep, Quilter's Casche has it under "spool", but they use the "Y" seam.
I love the picture but I can't see me making 4 "Y" seams on each block. Don't have the skill or the patience. LOL
