I never thought about the washing and dye coming out. I want my quilts to last.

That was a really good article and well worth the read. You can't go by the feel of dicount fabric because they load them up with sizing and after the first wash it feels like an old dish rag. And I love my LQS just for the chance to see what's new. If she doesn't have it she's always more than willing to get it for me. This helps her and saves me the shipping. Jan in Punxsy

Wonderful article. I printed it out so that I can explain to people why I am a fabric snob. I normally buy fabric for quilts at one of my LQSs. I might buy white or off-white Kona fabric at Hobby Lobby but that's it. I, too, want to help keep the quilt shops in business. Thanks, WeSig, for the link to the article and GP for bringing the article up. I might even need to show DH the article. The last time he went into the quilt shop with me he picked up a bolt, looked at the price and said, "damn". He picked up another and looked at the price on it and said, "damn". - LOL I told him to quit looking at the prices if all he was gonna do is cuss.

Didn't I read somewhere on this forum, last year, concerning a technique used to keep fabrics from unraveling. Wasn't it, if you was to cut a corner on each end of the fab like this this prevented it from unraveling?

That was a great article. I am so glad you posted that. I will definitely be purchasing my fabric from my LQS from now on. So much work goes into one quilt -- I want it to last!

Pilot, I use a pinking rotary blade on the edges of my new fabric before I wash it. This prevents the fabric from ravelling.

I am a self confessed fabric snob like Cindyg :o) I'll tell ya, the first time I ran my hand down a bolt of Northcott, I began to see stars, laugh like a hyena, and get weak in the knees, LOLOLOL! REALLY! That's all it took, I was in love :o) I ONLY buy shop quality and either gave or threw away the "early" fabric. I wouldn't even wipe my boo-hiney with it :oD Amie

I mostly make service quilts and I do NOT use LQS fabric for those. I just can't affordt to. Tho the quilt stroe fabric is deffinately easier and more fun to work with.
