Leah welcome! If you are new quilter you will find that a simple pattern such as the 9 patch would be quick and then use a sashing to tie it all together. Another suggestion is a "scrap" quilt pattern such as the CrayonBox that others have suggested. Have fun and he will treasure the memories ans so will you
