Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, 2025

Post by WeeOne » Wed Nov 26, 2025 11:51 pm

Happy Thanksgiving to All Y'all ❣️

I'm sorry I haven't posted in the last couple days. Here's a rundown of life for me. And for you that text me Wednesday evening and I said I was starting this post, laundry and organizing the MH came first. So now it is Thanksgiving morning.

Tuesday turned out mostly a praise God day. I saw Garry in the morning for just a few minutes, he was in therapy and they were getting him to stand up with the help of a lift. He was awake and trying. Better than the past week.

I then had to go to the Jeep dealership and get them to replace driver's side bulbs. I was going to do it myself, but found both lights were out and I had only bought a low beam bulb, note for $23. Well, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit has a fancy super bulb that does both low and high beam, and of course they have to order one. Ching ching, 1 bulb $405 + labor. Went to our house and picked up forwarded mail before coming back to Lakeway.

I stopped back at the Rehab to check on the Capt. I walked in to find him feeding himself and wide awake!! I found the nurse and she said the Dr had stopped the muscle relaxer pill. The muscle relaxer pill has been a big problem.
The Dr wondered on Monday if Garry might have a UTI, so got a sample. As of Wednesday evening, still waiting on that test results. He ate all his dinner on Tuesday, which hasn't happened since over a week ago. I noticed that he's opening his mouth better, too. He didn't talk but a word or two, so not sure if that's improved.

Wednesday morning.
Jeep texted this morning that the bulb came in. I stopped to see Garry and they had him in a wheelchair, but he'd already had 2 therapys by 10:30 and was tired. I did see the Dr and he's going to put the Capt on a drug tomorrow that is for people who fall asleep during the day.
I then went to Jeep dealer and they installed the bulb and did an oil change, since it came up with all my driving, it was time for an oil change. I decided to go to the house, since I was half way there and get all my plants. Saturday night and early next week may be close to freezing, so if plants are here I can put them in a bay. Picked up my Violets too, so I don't have to go to the house unless there's mail.

Kaylyn will be here for Thanksgiving, today.
We will visit Capt Grandpa, Garry's title. Kaylyn, aka HighPockets, as Garry nicknamed her at birth, will stay at the MH with me until Friday afternoon. Her BFF, Adele is flying out of Austin at 8 this morning, to go to Dallas, to have Thanksgiving with her step-dad family. So, HighPockets will be knocking on my MH door about 6:30. The local news has advised that travelers be at the Austin Airport 2 hours early.

I am Thankful for each and every one of my QIAD family here, and for your prayers ❣️

I hope y'all have a great Thanksgiving ❣️
Lyn

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

LYN, it's good to see you post. It's a relief to hear some positive news about Garry. You seem to be juggling a lot of chainsaws! Mail, plants, Minnie, Jeep, and Thanksgiving, not to mention Garry! I'm glad Kaylyn is there with you, even if only for a day or two.

LOIS - I'm strickly a white meat gal, though I once made turkey jerky from the dark meat and it was better than the white. So if you have leftovers and don't want soup - there ya go!

VAL - how is your hubby today after his fall? What are you two doing for TG?

TINA B - I hope you are enjoying your little vacation. Where are you?

CHRISS - that TG brunch sounds like it might be pretty tasty. Breakfast/brunch is my favorite meal! I didn't have chili relleno last night - it was happy hour at the restaurant so I ate off the HH menu - grilled chicken street tacos with rice and beans. They brought them in corn tortillas. We'd ordered flour. Not the best choice I could have made. I guess my mom also make polenta - exactly the same way Jerry did it. Only she called it fried cornmeal mush. I don't think any of us had heard the word "polenta" back in those days.

LORI - you had 3 appts, too? I hope they weren't unpleasant ones. I'm done with appts now until Dec 4th - when I have 3 more. I had planned to kit up the mitten project yesterday. It was on my written list. But I did my hip exercises, got involved in laundry, finished decorating our house, then I ended up cleaning the garage (packing up Donation boxes and putting leftover boxes into recycling bin). By then I simply couldn't stand up any longer. So I sat and read a book instead. Where do you find all these fun classes that you take? Love your photo!

JANA - did Mr G get home OK last night? How is he feeling? Hope he's up to all the TG hoopla today.

JUDI - you are off to a family wing-ding today! Have some pumpkin pie for me! I don't think I will be having any today or even tomorrow. I will make us a pie later this weekend, but it will probably be apple because that's what Bill likes.

MARY Q - are you thrilled with your new kitchen? Did you stay up last night listening to the dishwasher sing? Sorry the faucet isn't ready to go yet, though. But hopefully by Friday, it will be all completely done!

We are doing a small TG dinner tomorrow (Friday) with Lee & Lara and our friends, Doyle and Susie. Susie wanted to bring dessert and it doesn't sound like it's going to be pumpkin pie. Lara is bringing fruit salad and asparagus done on the Blackstone grill. So today's list is - vacuum, sweep kitchen, clean bathroom, expand the dining table, and see that the turkey breast is thawing. I also want Bill to get the rest of the outside lights going. And I plan to get out my wools and felts and embroidery threads and get set to make some mittens!

Have a blessed day and a Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving
Lyn so Happy Garry is doing better. Going to a dealership is so expensive.
Today DDIL & I are sharing the cooking. So I guess the guys are on clean up...I hope.
Dogs are still adjusting to each other. Mornings are the worst because they SJ still scared of Mary, but they are starting to play with each other.

Okay--WHO ate my post yesterday? It went poof and was gone.

FLO--HAPPY 2 DAYS LATE BIRTHDAY.

LYN--so happy to hear Garry is getting a little better. Hope today he can share a good visit with you. It is hard when you can't really do much except sit and wait for him to heal. Prayers are coming his and your way.

I'll pick up Laura around 2. My nephew, Nick. works today in a restaurant and today is a very busy night for them. Joe and Fran will be here around the same time. Should be a good day and I am thankful to have them live close by.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning!

Yes, Mr G finally got home yesterday. He's doing very well. Has a strange looking plastic guard on his arm. It's like a splint, not on the bottom of his forearm, but on the top, and has a swoop up of plastic over the top of his hand. Like a slide. This is to protect the small incision where they entered to place the stent in the heart aorta. Just needs to wear this guard for a couple of days. His meds are ll off too. Some of the meds don't play well with the contrast dye used, so we are not to take them for a few days. The Dr's have him scheduled for Cardio PT. Just don't know when that will start. And maybe some occupational therapy at the same time.. At least the PT place is nearby. Oh, Mr G can't lift anything more than a fork for a week or so.

Dinner is around 5:30 for us. It's strange not to be busy getting dinner for this family. We get to just go and eat. My girls are doing it all. I used to love watching the parade, but not since they added all this mumbo jumbo stuff of the dancing and lip syncing instead of a real parade!

Daniel is designing a movable railing, so we can block off the top of the stairs. Mr G , as we call it, wobbles like a Weeble and has a tendency to possibly fall, so to stop a fall down the stairs, Daniel will design a baby gate for the stairs. It will look just like the railing already there. Just easy to slide across the opening. What's a Weeble, you ask? It was a small toy that Sarah played with and loved. A egg shaped character that wobbled, but never fell down, it was weighted on the bottom. The Weebles had a tree house and slid through that. Now you know 😀 Sarah was about two when she had this toy.

Happy Thanksgiving to y'all! Thank you for being blessings in our life! We are so grateful for so much. It's great to count our blessings, daily, naming them one by one. (There's a hymn we sing with that phrase)

Lyn - glad for the good report on Garry. Improvements are wonderful!

Hugs and prayers,
Jana

Good Morning Girls

And a very Happy Thanksgiving to you all! It's a bright sunny morning here, tho seriously cold. High temp for today is 28*!!!

Lyn.... SO glad you were able to give us an update and Garry!!! You've certainly had a busy week . What wonderful news that they are seeing some improvement. Happy to hear that just a change of meds made such a huge difference. Do you think you will be at the campground for a while yet? Has the insurance company approved another time frame for Garry to be there?

Lois.... Tell you what, you have the dark meat and send me the white meat!! I meant to buy myself a small turkey breast and forgot!! So I think I'm going to order pizza for dinner!! I have the cranberry sauce but forgot the turkey!

Tinab.... Every year on this day, as I reflect on the blessings of my life, those things that I am so very grateful for... .My QIAD friends are very very high on the list!!

Maryz.... LOL... I actually forgot the run the dishwasher last nite!! It's not very full, but I might run it today--thinking that I should stay awake for it--just I can check it out. Faucet should be connected tomorrow---tho it depends on when the part gets delivered by Amazon!! IF it doesn't come... I'm tempted to go up to Home Depot and buy a new one!! Enough is enough!  Once Bill gets all the lights set up does he put them on a timer? I strung lights on my porch and connected to a "smart Plug" - then with an app on my phone I scheduled them to turn on and off automatically.. I'm so smart!!

Flo....You need to post a little sign in your kitchen "WE cook YOU clean"

Diane.... How is Laura doing? There's a song that comes on the radio from time to time---"Laura" tho I can't remember who sings it. When I hear it I think of your Laura. I know a few LORI's and Laurie's ---but your Laura is the only one I know!! I think of those beautiful baby blankets she made!!

Jana..... So good to hear Mr. G is home and doing well. Not a bad idea to put a railing at the top of the steps!! I remember Weebles, I'm sure my kids had them and sang this song about them, that I can hear in head as I type!! Nice change for you that you just need to show up for dinner!! I can't remember the last time I had to cook for Thanksgiving. I do kind of miss it!

Chriss... Where are you headed today? To Richards? To Dad's? I'm kind of scared to use my new sink... it's looks so pretty and I don't want to mess it up!! I'm afraid I'm going to scratch it!! Do you use anything special on it!?

Lori... Your Barn Star looks super cute!! Painted on Plywood? Every once in a while when I'm driving down to Wisconsin, I come a across a barn in the middle of nowhere with a big Quilt sign. Actually I think Viv has one on her garage. (I got lost driving home once and ended up in the middle of Minnesota farm country!)

It's going to be a quiet day around here... Shawn and family are in WI, Kevin and Family are going to Sara's brothers, (I was invited but with kitchen mess decided to politely decline.) I'll probably spend the day cleaning up some messes--putting things back where they belong. Might even see if I can find the top of my dining room table--always a challenge. It's been suggested that I just order pizza for supper, but think I'll just dig around in the fridge and see what else is available. Delivery pizza has gotten so crazy expensive! If worse comes to worse---there's a McDonalds 3 blocks away!

Time to grab some more coffee and crank up the music!!

Wishing you all a most Happy Thanksgiving Day---may what ever you do today, bring you lots of joy!!

Happy Thanksgiving my friends. Hope your day is filled with lots of things to be thankful for.

Lyn, I glad to hear Gary is doing a bit better and that Kaylyn will be with you today.

Maryz, I had my mittens kitted up for about 6 months before I made them. We find classes all over. Once you start taking classes people tell you about other ones. The one we just took, was a referral from another group. The company travels and gives classes. They are from Missouri. Local community centers have lots of different classes. From those classes you hear about others.https://www.bohemianfolkbarnquilts.org/

Chriss, my Nana used to always make polenta as a side dish. It's not my thing. Hope you are having a great day.

Valerie, did you travel to see family? How's Tony doing?

Jana, Glad Mr. G made it home. All he need to do is lift a fork today, so that works out perfectly.

Maryq, the barn quilt is painted on a coated metal with outdoor paint. We did a self guided tour of barn quilts in Sisters OR a few years ago. We had a blast. Laughing and getting lost most of the time.

Judi, thanks for the updates of our forum friends. Glad they are doing well.

I texted Tina this morning and she said everyone is doing well. I sure miss her posts. We already walked and I need to do my exercises. Then I'm going to make Cranberry Orange bread. My mom's recipe. I've been making it for 50 years now. It's my favorite.

It's warm here again. Supposed to get to 80 today, but drop back to 72 tomorrow. We'll be going out to dinner this afternoon. I might do a little stitching when I get home.

Have a lovely holiday. I'm so thankful to spend my mornings with you all.

Lori 8-)
