TUESDAY, November 4th
Good morning,
JANA - I used to do tole painting, too. And ceramics, starting from cleaning the greenware. Fond memories of ceramics classes with my mom and younger sister when I was in high school and newly married. I still have pieces from both crafts, I made a beautiful 19-piece Nativity in colors, right down to the eyelashes on the figures. Autumn has that 55-yr old Nativity now, and get this - I found the same set in fired greenware at a thrift store in CO last winter! So one of these days I plan to paint it. I made a smaller set for my parents-in-law all in antiqued ivory. But after I got the quilting bug about 35 years ago, some of my other crafts have gone by the wayside.
LYN - We took a boatload of pictures with just that in mind - a photo album to go with the others we've made the past two winters. We had to cram a lot of activities and photos into 2 weeks that we usually get from 2 months. But we'll get started on it soon and hopefully send it before Christmas. Once we get going, using Shutterfly, it takes us, working together, about 2 days to complete. So there are folks in your area who feel that a population of 900 warrants a full time city manage? That seems a bit excessive to me. We voted by mail a couple of weeks ago. While I don't feel voting by mail is the most secure way to vote, it's certainly convenient!
MARY Q - I had an odd dream, too, the other night - I dreamed I was getting married - big wedding, big dress. And my groom had a face - and it was Bill! Yay! Our new dentist is a pretty big deal - 11 chairs! They have a lot of high tech scanning equipment that I've never seen before. And the dentist interviews you first - problems? history? Hobbies? meds? etc. And this dentist looks so much like our grandson, Drew that I immediately liked him. And I doubt he's much older! (Drew is 32) He really did a thorough exam and outlined a plan of future treatment (of course!), showing us old fillings, crowns, etc that were showing wear and may need replacing down the road, But I do have one small cavity in one of my two wisdom teeth that needs to be filled. So Nov 25th I will get that done along with my cleaning, And then I'll be good to go for my surgery! You asked about other crafts - Like I mentioned to Jana, I've done tole painting, ceramics, and also macrame, and crochet. I do cross stitch, hand embroidery, scrapbooking, and I even tried jewelry making, in addition to quilting. I've never taken a quilting class, never knew my grandmothers, and my mom didn't quilt, so I was on my own. Eleanor was my beginning teacher and I taught myself from there. Enjoy your plane ride with your brother!! My brother was also a pilot in AK - mostly bush. I also got to go for a ride with him and the views from the air were fabulous - a herd of caribou, frozen tundra, snow - I'll never forget it and you won't either!
JUDI - it's always exciting to start a new project - especially a new method of quilting. I've only made one tee shirt quilt and also was nervous, but took it one step at a time. I cut out the portion to make the blocks about an inch or two larger. Then added the fusible interfacing before cutting the blocks to size. From then on it was like working with any other quilt block. I made pieced blocks of various sizes to fill in spaces where I needed them (I didn't have many shirts to work with) and I even cut out the smaller logos from sleeves and front pockets, etc, to place wherever they worked well to fill in. I believe you will find it easier to do this project that you think.
LOIS - did you get your quilt finished yesterday? And your smaller snowman quilt is up next? How is Sandi doing with her shoulder? Is she able to sew yet?
LORI - what's the latest in your world?
VAL - How are things in the desert?
CHRISS - did the parents come yesterday? Is Dad going to build shelves in the old oven space for you? Will they need painting?
My A-Team left yesterday. But not before we had more leaf raking, more tractor rides, and wheelbarrow rides! When it was time to get out of the wheelbarrow, it was a firm "NO!". She talked Pop into just one more ride around the property (poor Pop's back!), and then we finally had to dump the wheelbarrow over on it's side and she STILL hung in there! lol! But eventually it was time for goodbyes all around. Sniffle. After that we went to our new dentist. VERY comprehensive new patient exams. I have a small cavity so that filling and my cleaning will be done Nov 25th. Also on Nov 25 I have a 7am MRI of my back. The MRI was ordered by the back doctor for baseline info and isn't part of the hip pre-op orders. It's just coincidental that it's the same day.
Today Scottie has vet appt for his monthly LIbrela injection. We need to do laundry but Lara has already claimed the machines, so tomorrow works for us. We also have LOTS of grocery shopping to do - Costco and Freddy's. I've almost finished cutting out my table runner, so maybe I can start that today. Still working on CW's but s l o w l y. My big cross-stitch project has been set aside long enough now to be called a UFO. Sigh.
So that is my life, yesterday and today. Still busy!
Wishing all a blessed day!

Morning
Yesterday went from quietly baking to crazy busy. Baked cranberry walnut oatmeal cookies & sourdough blueberry muffins. Then kids came over. Their mini van acting up so it's in my yard, they have our extra truck. Joe will take it to friends shop tomorrow.
This morning getting hair cut then not sure what's happening, expecting kids back over.

Re: TUESDAY, November 4th
Good morning!
Sunny , bright, and slightly warm. There's a storm approaching that will change all that.
I need a short grocery run. Three different grocery stores. Not one has everything I want, but at least they are close to each other. The cow is running dry, so that's the major stop! And that's Costco, so it's dangerous too!
Mr G is fussing with the last clock. It's set, he just can't see to get it back up on the nail, where it hangs. I'd have it done likeiy split, but I'll let him struggle and succeed.
Not much else here. Got our weekly letter from Andrew. He's doing well and loving Texas, where he's at. He's been given a new, added responsibility. They call it, District Leader. That involves checking and watching over a group of 8-10 missionaries in his area. Helping them with a myriad of things. Those missionaries report to Andrew, who 8n turn reports to a Zone Leader, who keeps the mission president up to date. A Zone is comprised of 8 -10 districts. Each mission area has around 250 missionaries serving there. Andrew is serving in the Dallas North Mission. Divide the area of Dallas into four quadrants, covering to neighboring state boundaries. Some idea of how big the area is for his mission. Covers many different cities. Won't be long until y'all know lots of things about the church!
Time to get up and going. We vote here today too. We don't trust the mails, so a stop off at city hall and put the ballot in the big drive up to ballot box. Easy.
Hugs,
Jana

Flo, I bought some fresh cranberries the other day, so I will be baking some cranberry orange bread soon. I love cranberries in bread.
Judi, It's cloudy here today, so I may get a window or two done. Planning around the sun is a pain.
Maryz, I bet you are missing the A team this morning. They did have a nice long stay though. How's Scottie doing? Jack leg is not getting better. He starts laser treatments today. I sure hope they work.
Lois, I'll be doing PT with you on Friday.
Jana, clocks at your house is a major event. I think I would just stop them all for 23 hours. We don't trust sending votes though the mail either. We'll be voting for our one and only thing on the ballot.
Jack has a laser treatment today. Fingers crossed these work. I sure miss my walking buddy. I have the cable people coming out again today. There has been a problem with it since they did the upgrade. Not much else planned today. I got the entire house cleaned and sheets changed on Sunday. I will probably clean up the sewing room and maybe see if my machine still worked. It's been sitting unattended for about a month now. Dinner will be grilled chicken and potatoes of some kind.
Have a lovely day.

Re: TUESDAY, November 4th
Sunny, a little breezy and will get to 82°. Sitting in my recliner watching the birds who have found the feeders. I think they must be about out of food, because a little bird just landed by the sliding door and was looking at me, like, hey there empty. And it's probably true because the squirrel just crawled up the pole and grabbed one feeder, looked and left with empty cheeks.
Yesterday I started laundry, our cotton blanket and a couple of towels. I was doing some paperwork and heard a funny noise. The washer had lights blinking, beeping and the screen said 'Ld'. This is a Whirlpool Cabrio machine that came with the house. I got the manual out and it said the drain hose wasn't in the pipe in the wall correctly. That made no sense. I've used it for 3 years. I tried pushing buttons and did get it to stop beeping but lights and error message still on. Oh, and I could open the lid and it was half full of water. I figured I better find a repairman, but who to call? This may sound funny, but I called the gal at the flooring store. Dana and I became friends as we talked about more than floor choices. We exchanged some low carb recipes, etc. She was happy to hear from me. She didn't have a repairman suggestion, but she told me about a problem she had with her machine, a Maytag, and after unplugging and plugging back in, I set it to drain/spin. We were talking about other stuff and after a minute or so, the machine started. Yay!! It was a great conversation. Machine worked fine when I did a rinse cycle. Then the day went downhill as I called about the health insurance. The lady helped me get onto the United Airlines site but it wasn't working very well. I kept trying to compare plans but it only showed the one we now have. I questioned her about the pamphlet that was sent with choices. After an hour, she said the only choice was what we already have. Then why send this other stuff?? By then I was upset and politely hung up. Sorry if I'm ranting.
Time to get the Capt up and go vote.
Hope y'all have a good day.
Lyn

Two technicians tricks first unplug everything, wait several minutes, then replace and see if that resets issues. Second, is the technician's hit, give it a good whack! Also, all machinery, computers, etc, all speak and only understand one language, Swear at it! You get it's attention that way!

Re: TUESDAY, November 4th
Good afternoon. I guess I had it in my head that yesterdays sew in was optional. tsk, tsk.
Today has been a wonderful day. I went to town because it's the first Tuesday of the month and the retired fireman's breakfast. So, I got to the parents' house and dad didn't want to go. Seems he only knows a few of the firemen that attend, he retired in 2000, and half of the people were hired after he retired. He's probably the second oldest to attend and usually drives the oldest retiree to the breakfast, well, the oldest didn't want to go. So I sat and listened to dad stories, some were new but some were also repeats. I love my dad and will listen to the same story a zillion times.
I then went and filled my tank. Went to the new Petco and Burlington coat factory in town and have decided I don't need to go to either ever again. I've seen it, no need for a second look. I was looking for a long t-shirt night gown. My gown has buttons down the front and the weight of my quilts makes the buttons push on my scar and it irritates it. I found something that will work but I am not thrilled that it isn't as long as I'd like, guess it's Amazon to the rescue again.
My propane tank was filled today. Funny, I paid $3.48 for propane and $3.99 for gas for the car. I'm curious to see how long the propane lasts. When there were two of us here we filled up 3 times a year. The last time it was filled was February of this year.
I made spaghetti for lunch/dinner today. It was ok but not great, I think my tastes are changing.
Lori, I think the game you girls played at your friends sounds like a fun time, and it would be a little challenging to come up with one word and have someone else figure it out. So many possibilities. And I bet lots of laughs. Hope the laser works for my friend Jack, I want him to walk with you too.
Maryq, it will be great to have the microwave off the counter. I tried putting a non slip pad under it and it still slides. I bought a bathmat, for inside the tub, and hoping that it will help the microwave to not slide. I watch YouTube for all kinds of things. They have so many videos on my car and how it works. I rarely do cross stitch, and have crocheted a couple of times, heck, I haven't gotten into the groove in so long I'm not sure if my sewing machine even works. So tell me, how was the flight, I bet it was fun.
Jana, my go to is Kielbasa and sauerkraut. Well, the sausages used to come in a package of 6? now they are in a 3 pack for the same price. I'm hoping they are as good as I remember. I'm sure your trip to Costco was ONLY for milk, so? what else hopped into your cart.
Maryz, sorry your girls had to go back home. I bet you are the happiest kind of tired you could be. Those tracker rides sound like fun. I did get my dad one of those headlamp things, with a birthday card and I wrote about how I remember holding the light and how fun it was to be my dad's side kick. And I told him the headlamp was for when I wasn't there to hold the light.
Judi, I guess if they need the cookies bad enough to keep Ken in a paycheck they must be amazingly good. You will make a wonderful tshirt quilt. Do you have a tee shirt that you can practice with first?
Flo, it's fun to have the kids nearby for many reasons, glad yours stop by often.
Lois, I'm sure you are done with laundry by now, I think I will put in a load after I am done here. Nice that you sent the kids home with lunch money. I also have therapy on Friday, see you there, race you on the treadmill.
Lyn, I guess your washing machine wanted your attention for a minute or two. Nice that you reconnected with the floor store lady. I am also having trouble trying to get things to work correctly. One place billed my med insurance incorrectly. The insurance said it was billed incorrectly and to resubmitt. the medical place said they did resubmit. the insurance company only knows how to copy and paste and sends me the same info over and over. It's very frustrating to deal with the clueless. I think, if we ever get these issues straightened out we should go have a milkshake.
So, what would you do. I have this cabinet. the top hole was where the convection oven was, it's way too high for the microwave. The hole below it is where the wall oven was. To the right on the counter is the microwave. I have no other cupboard doors and they don't make these doors any more. https://i.postimg.cc/6pMW9D9f/thumbnail ... 7-oven.jpg
You girls have a great night, I'm going to go do a load of laundry and clean the kitchen.
Chriss

Re: TUESDAY, November 4th
Hi everyone
You all sound so very busy doing so many things. We are still purging and getting rid of stuff. DH taught many years and its hard to throw out all the lesson plans, study guides, practice worksheets and exams and think of the hours that went into that. Took a haul of recycled paper to dumpster and some cardboard too.
Secretly I am very glad he has begun to do it and he begins to realize the time it will take to get this house in order. But we will work on it.
Chriss, in that opening could you put doors on it and make a pantry. I have a microwave at top and doors on bottom and have two shelves. Our old house had a built in oven and stove top and we replaced with a range and took the doors from under the stove top and used them for the opening, my father in law was like your Dad and could do anything.
Not much sewing lately but hope to someday soon, most likely Sunday. Next week, I have at least two things everyday so I will have to see.
Have to scoot, DH helping Grandson with Geometry so I need to get the floor washed before he gets back.
Take care one and all,
TinaB
