Thursday October 2nd

Post by grammiequilts » Thu Oct 02, 2025 4:52 am

Good morning it is sunny today well the sun is just coming up...74 today, leaves are falling and turning, we need rain really bad here,,,there are islands turning up on our waterways that werent there a few months ago...my river is very low, no rain forcast but they did say we will get a lot of snow,,,since we are not going to florida this winter, It will be snowy here. figures,
i did get started om the last block of the KTVC quilt last night, this one required a lot of traingles but it is only one block...It is almost time to put this top together.
Lori that is an awesome story of the little framed wheel house,,,how big is it,,,and what a treasure to find, with the note. My parents lived in FLorida,,,when my Dad passed they brought his ashes to Michigan for funeral and had his ashes interred on his mothers grave as per his request,,When my mother passed it was the same, My sister and her daughter cleared and went through stuff and got rid of everything they deemed useless...I wish I had been givin the opportunity to go through their stuff as I am more sentinmental than they were, It would have been neat to find little treasures like yours,,,but my mom was not a saver at all...she threw everything away if it wasnt usable today,
Well I need coffee and get this show on the road...I think I may head out to a thrift store today and just have some retail therepy. Or maybe Ikea, or even Costco...I just feel the need to get our of the house...Hope you all get to do what you would like today. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good morning,

I slept well until 0230. And that was all she wrote. Foxy and I got up, drank some tea, read a while, and now here we are. I like getting up early. Even as a teen I rarely slept past 0730 even on weekends. But this is pushing it!

Yesterday I met my new spinal orthopedic doctor. And I love him! The last dr I saw had no bedside manner at all and wanted to do surgery. This doctor walked in with a big smile, a handshake for both of us (Bill was with me), and then asked me about myself, what was going on, etc. Then he showed me the films he had and used visual aids (fake vertebral columns) to explain what all is going on with my back. He's also ordered an MRI, of my upper back. He was friendly and funny and when I told him who had recommended me to him, he said since we were "hanging out with those guys", he was going to have to charge me extra! But the upshot was, he said I don't need back surgery - at least not now and maybe never. Said my hip replacements may improve my back. And if necessary, he would order more steroid shots (which worked very well for me). He said last recourse would be surgery. He also knows my hip doctor, who I have yet to meet, and affirmed he is one of the best in the biz. Said he is very busy and hard to get into, but that's what you want - not the doctor who has lots of room in his schedule.

In other good news, the A-Team IS coming! The end of October into first week of Nov. Hooray!! Aut is attending a library conference in Denver in a couple of weeks, so they are driving to CO, will attend the conference, see all the family/friends we have there, then drive here for a week . Then drive home through SoCal/AZ/NM. So lots to do!! I'll be getting out the Christmas decorations, and borrowing Drew's big fake Christmas tree. It's going to be so fun! I'm already feeling better!

LORI - that picture story nearly brought tears to my eyes! I'm glad it's now in your kitchen. Your mom must have been such a fun and special lady. I know I would have liked her. And so would MY mom! I hope your labs and XRs show what you need them to show so you can find out what's wrong with your shoulder. And that it's an easy fix.

VAL - glad to hear your new machine actually weighs less than the website said. What is the machine you take back and forth to classes? Do you think you'll be at Tony's enough in the future to leave a new machine there? So the SD DGD knows the sex of the new baby to come? A girl!? How fun! I promise not to tell.

LOIS - you can't just say you are making soup. You know we all need to know what kind!

CHRISS - glad your appointment went so well. And super glad you have such a great doctor! Sounds like he is really busy and like my new doctor just told us, that's a sign of a good doc. Everyone wants to get in to see him/her! Loved your comment about stickers on Amara's suitcase. Too cute. But you are right - she needs her own suitcase and stickers from all the states she's been in.

JANA - it must be fun to be able to watch the snow levels as they descend - right from your own windows! So pretty!

MARY Q - I hate sleeping past 0530. I feel sluggish the rest of the day and never seem to get anything done. I may fall asleep in my chair at night but that's OK. My Prince Charming is sleeping in his chair, too! I have a set of Fiesta ware, a set of American flag dishes, Christmas dishes, my china, and my everyday china ("Summer Chintz" by Johnson Bros). I gave away 3 sets over the past few years. I LOVE dishes!

FLO - what a wonderful gift you gave your DBIL - those bears in those shirts probably mean the world to him. And it must make you feel extra happy to be able to have given them to him.

JUDI - did you get all those geese rounded up? I'm still working on my ornaments. Sorry you missed being able to go through your parents' things. My SIL did the same thing. She had no right to do it and completely emptied the house, giving things to her kids, then the rest - I have no idea. I'm still bitter about it, but there's no sense fussing about it - it was done.

Today I have a massage appt at 11:00. My massage therapist is also a patient of my new back surgeon's, having had 3 different operations after 2 different bad accidents. He had also urged me to go see this doc for a second opinion. Other fun things will be getting out Christmas gifts we have for the A-Team and starting to wrap them. I'll work on my ornament blocks and maybe clean something. I think supper is going to be chicken stroganoff.

My brother, Gene, and my SIL, Terry, are getting married tomorrow morning. We won't be there, but our spirits will. I will be at chiropractor and Bill & Scottie will be at the vet for shots. :D

Fondle that fabric!

Good morning,

It seems to be a beautiful day out there it's going to only be 70⁰ but that's good.
I finished all 7 bone neck pillows and have them in a bag and ready to go.
Bill is bringing our car for an oil change I will stay here and clean up a bit.
Haven't heard about my machine but I do know they email you and send tracking when it's on the way back I don't want to call as I don't know how many machines are before mine so it's a waiting game.

Well that's all the news from here.
I hope you all have a great day.
Prayers go out to all.
Lois

Good morning

Judi my Mom saved everything. Therefore I have my Baptism gown, Confirmation gown, her old doll, etc. We had some plates/glassware in the China cabinet but alas my sister is not sentimental and therefore it is gone. There was also a complete DR set of furniture which she found to be of no use. It was my great\grandmothers from when she got married so likely around 1900. It's gone too. There is a lot of odds and ends in the shed. I am hoping that some day soon I can go through that and straighten things out.

Maryz yes I think for at least the immediate future I will be in LV a bit. I am leaving Sat and plan to return around the 22nd or 23rd. It depends on how things go. I don't know when Chemo and Radiation starts but I don't think he will be able to drive into town everyday and neither of those treatments are pleasant. He is unable at this point to do much except shower and dress and he has to stop and rest even with just that. Sounds like your Dr. appointment turned out wonderful. First impressions are important. Good to hear the A team is coming. Yes the SD GD knows the sex already because they had a blood test done that reveals the gender. I am sad that my DS will not get the grandparent experience that we have had. She is way controlling and has set down rules. We are not to spill the beans but her mother's whole side of the family knows. Well I am not quite as obedient as her father and I did tell my Daughter. It is her first great niece or nephew.

Chriss wonder if you and Maryz have the same doctor? Maybe related. Sounds like you both hit the jackpot!

Jana is there snow today?

I did go to the Go cube class yesterday. It was nice to be back in the shop with my quilty friends. It was only a 3 hours class so it didn't take up a lot of my time. Only two more blocks (Nov and Dec) and then only to put the quilt together. I have started putting the sashing on the first one. One row is done and the second one started. It is only 3 x 4 blocks so should go rather quickly. I will likely use one of them for my donation to the ladies tea next year. Today is finish cleaning up the sewing room and getting things packed to go back to Vegas. By the way I am ahead $12 there. Might put that back in.

But for now, off to start my day. Have a wonderful day and God Bless.

Good morning!

One last beautiful warm day! Then the temps are really falling. Sunny, bright, and puffy clouds.

Finally make the run to Costco last night, the cow was dry! So did quite a large grocery trip, Costco and Winco., and then home. Costco had a new Christmas decoration, it jumped into my cart! It's 3 wooden trees. Just trees, that will be put with some of another decoration I have. Humm, maybe pair those trees with my red metal sleigh and Clydesdale horse, that I put on the kitchen table. We'll see ...... still have the dry goods to put away this morning.

My poor Ethan is struggling with two of his meds reacting with each other. Triggering his asthma to flare up horribly. Sounds like he has whooping cough, but he doesn't. Doctor is working on a solution. The good news is that Ethan's braces are coming off on the 23rd!

No further word on Daniel's new job. It was offered , just now waiting for the official paper salary. His friend who's doing the hiring talks to Daniel all the time and says he's slow, but it's coming. So we wait.

Not much else here. Staring at the Kimberbell kit box and working on the JA. Plenty of time this weekend to sew while watching General Conference.

Maryz - yippee -A-team is coming, what fun, And Amara gets to stay in RV, she always saw you in, in Texas! Ethan collects patches from every National and State park they visit. Has a hat he wears with them at camp.

Time to scoot,
Hugs,
Jana

Good Morning!!

Oh Man, even if I wanted to sleep in this morning it would be impossible!! Our lawn service is here trimming shrubs with very noisy electric trimmers!! Ok by me tho as it's one more job I don't have to worry about doing!!! We are having some beautiful weather lately so I'm sure they are taking advantage of it !

Judi.... You decided to forego the trip to FL this year? Are you going to take some other type of winter escape vacation? How great it was that your Dad had his wishes clearly stated. I have a book of things/info for my kids, but haven't gotten to the specifics of my ashes. My folks ashes are buried at Fort Snelling Military cemetery so I can't be buried with them--which would be my choice. Just don't blow me to the wind!!!

Maryz. . OH SO Glad you like your new Dr and the doesn't seem to want to rush you into back surgery!!! And better news yet THE A-TEAM IS COMING!!! When was Autumn home last? Won't it be great that L & L are right there too! I bet it's been a long time since the sisters were together! Since A & A are driving--I bet you could sneak an extra set of those dishes in their car and pass them on!  My Mother's beautiful china will likely end up at Goodwill one day--as none of my kids want it!

Lori... How fun to find little treasures with a story behind them!! And better yet, to have it now in your own kitchen! I don't get out of bed until the coffee is done---it's set on a timer to turn on at 0745! I don't like sleeping too much later than that because I feel like I wasting too much of the day!

Valerie.... I suppose after working night shifts for so many years, it's taking a little while for you to adjust to a different sleep/awake rhythm. When I first retired I took a nap every day--just because I could. Now I don't want to waste the time sleeping---time is going by too fast and I have too much fabric I need to do something with. When you go back to Tony's, do you have an idea how long you will be there? How much fabric are you brining with you? A few years ago, I had my Mom's 1st Communion Dress, her Wedding Dress and Navy Dress Blue Jacket of my dad's. Had no idea what to do with them--so I donated them to the historical society in the town where they were born/raised. One of these days I may drive down there and see if they have done anything with them. I wrote a little story about my folks and each of those items. I still have my 1st Communion dress---and a little dress my Grandmother made for me when I was about 2 years old!

Chriss....So glad you got a good report from your surgeon! Has he cleared you to drive again now? Good for your doing the rehab. I did see that Fat Cat pattern---as luck would have it. I bought that pattern a few years ago! Never made it tho--I think I've bought a large number of the Fat Cat patterns--even one of dragons that I'd love to--Evie loves Dragons! I'll be making 'Mother Cluckers" one of these days too!

Jana.... They are building a new Costco 2 miles from my house---I think it's going to be very dangerous for me.!! I do have a Sam's card, but it's a much further drive! I do love some pretty Christmas Decor!

No place I have to go today, but a need to do some clean up around here (don't I say that every morning) I'm leaving tomorrow morning to spend the weekend with my DB Greg and SIL Carol. About a 1 & 45min drive north of me. They live across from Lake Mille Lacs---Minnesota's largest lake and this time of year it's absolutely beautiful. If I get some good fall pictures I'll post. Oh and guess what... there's a LQS right there on the highway on the way to their house!

Good morning. Look outside, it's just beautiful out there. I think fall mornings are my favorite.

I was going to have today all to myself but that changed. I will go get my stepmom and take her to have her hair done. Then when we get back to her house we take dad to the chiropractor. And, after cardio rehab on Friday I think I will clean as much of their house as I can. Probably just bathrooms and the kitchen. I don't want to lug and run the vacuum cleaner. Saturday I will attempt my house cleaning and wash my bedding.

Lois, your client is a tough cookie, hope she doesn't have to call them again. what kind of soup did you make yesterday? Costco had Boudin clam chowder, so I bought some for the parents yesterday.

Valerie, I used to use the CPAP app, and it's on my phone but I don't ever think to look at it. When I wake up I look at my machine, it tells me how long I have slept and other info. I look at it every so often. Yay for two quilts for Catalina, woo hoo, score. I bet Tony is glad to have you in his corner. Guess you retired just in time to help him, God has plans.

Lori, did you get your stew fixin's yesterday? I didn't. It was a long day and when I was done with the parents I just wanted a nap. Perhaps today. Love that you found a note on the back of the landscape embroidered picture. And extra glad it's in your kitchen. That's a smile maker right there. Your mom sounds like a pretty cool lady. It must have been fun growing up and being her kid.

Judi, your post made me smile. When Marilyn would wake up she'd look outside and say It's sunny, outside. So we'd let her go outside so that she could realize that sunny didn't always mean warm. Maybe you could take a metal detector to your river bed while the water is low and find treasure. Hope you find the perfect thinga ma jiggy in the thrift store today.

Maryz, happy massage today. Glad you have a good doctor too. My surgeon's nurse told me that he is a perfectionist and sometimes a little difficult to work for. But as a patient that is a good thing. He doesn't chit chat, he states the facts and moves on to the next patient. And the funny thing is he has a set of drawers and a sink inthe exam room. The drawers are all labled as to what is in them. BP cuffs, small and large, Pens and paper, etc. I wish I had taken a picture, cracked me up. When we were kids we had suitcases for going to grandma's. I think Amara needs one, and perhaps you can find all the stickers and help her stick them onto it. what a fun time that will be. Since triple A will be there the end of this month I assume your feet won't hit the floor until Thanksgiving? It really truly is good to be you.

Jana, I'm sure they will figure out Ethan's meds and straighten him out. Bet he will be glad to get those braces off.

Maryq, Yes, I am cleared to do the driving I have already been doing. Yay for finding a quilt shop "on the way" to where you are going. Reminds me of when my son was little and asked how long it would take to get someplace. I'd tell him it would take as long as I wanted because I am doing the driving.

Dinner will be whatever is in the fridge. and today will mostly be spent with the parents. Hope you all have a super day

So my mom was like the house mom of the neighborhood. Our house is at the end of the Cul-de-sac and my mom was a stay at home mom taking care of everything around the house. She loved having kids around to craft, draw, paint, stitch or read. My son's best friend credits her with him being an artist/art professor. She sat with him and taught him how to read and draw. I find notes and writings everywhere. It's really awesome. Yesterday I went though a box of papers and she had notes throughout about different things. I really need to do more of that for my kids.

Chriss, it sounds like your a gaining a little more stamina by the day. You'll be back to normal in no time. Glad you are able to help out your dad. I'm sure he appreciates the break when you take your DSM to get her hair cut. No I didn't get the store yesterday. Maybe tomorrow. It's should be cooler on the weekend, so stew would be good then.

Maryq, I make myself get up too. Otherwise I feel like the day gets away from me. That's a good idea to donate to a historical society. I have things from the early 20th century. Figuring out where everything goes is time consuming. Sounds like a fun trip. The colors should be fabulous.

Jana, I hope Ethan gets squared away soon. Asthma is no fun. I still think of him as a little termite.

Maryz, Yippie... for the A team. So glad you will get to spend some time with them. I bet your back will feel better once the hips are better. When Bill's knee goes out it affects his back. It's all connected. I like you new doctor too. He sounds like a keeper. 0230...yikes! Happy wedding day to Gene and Terry.

Valerie, I bet it was nice to sew with your friends again. I hope you turn that $12 in to more.

Lois, I need to schedule an oil change. I saw on my phone app that it as due soon.

Judi, bummer you weren't able to be there. It's just me and I have plenty of time, so I go though everything.

Well I had my 4 year cancer follow up this morning and all is good. 3 days in a row of leaving the house before 8. I'm looking forward to relaxing with my coffee tomorrow morning. I came home and walked Jack and Wrigley, Bill's playing golf. Then I made some oatmeal with honey and cinnamon. I have tendonitis in my shoulder, so I have some anti inflammatory drugs to deal with that. Hopefully that does the trick. Everything else is normal. I'm going to watch the last playoff game for the Cubs today. Hopefully they will win. I might do a little embroidery while I watch. We'll have chicken something for dinner.

Have a lovely day.
