Re: Friday September 19,2025
I'm back again. I've had my walk - 1 mile! That's 2200 steps for me. I've showered, had breakfast, and ironed/starched/labeled my fabrics for my Christmas Cactus block. Now it's time to sit for a bit.
VALERIE - I've been thinking of you and Tony a lot. So you have good news and good news, and questionable news. Sounds like you have a good doctor. But what the heck was that other doctor thinking leaving the polyps?! I wonder how many other patients he has endangered . . . Is it possible to stock Tony up with groceries, some ready made meals, and you drive back home for a few days and bring back sewing stuff? Or - I see sewing machines in thrift shops all the time as cheap as $15. Supposedly, at least in Goodwill, they have been tested and are ready to sew. Pick up a couple rulers and a rotary cutter and you are in business. Maybe. Or can your DH drive home for your stuff? I think we are all empathizing with your situation and want to help solve it. We bought one of those $100 machines at Walmart once, thinking it would be a good travel machine. It was a piece of junk and never sewed right. I think it was a Brother. We ditched it after a few months of trying to make it work.
CHRISS - do your sister and your mom know you had heart surgery? If they want to visit you, they have to come to you. You've never had a snickerdoodle cookie?? You have led a deprived life. They are kind of like a sugar cookie. Roll them in balls, and then roll the balls in cinnamon & sugar. Bake. They and chocolate chip w/ walnuts are my two all time favorites!
Mary Q - I love goulash. Of course, everyone's is different. My mom's (and therefore mine) tasted mostly like spaghetti. Hamburger, macaroni, spaghetti sauce, and then cheese. I made Judi's gramma's goulash once and it's an entirely different dish - no macaroni. Going back to interior decor colors, back in Sept 2001 when we bought our first fifth-wheel, I walked into it on the lot and fell in love instantly. The cabinetry was oak (real wood!), the 'kitchen jewelry' was shiny brass, and the carpet was emerald green. It felt so warm and welcoming and I felt I was home instantly. Bill knew immediately we weren't looking any further. My sister made a mistake in her house carpet - cranberry. She thought her black cat would show up nicely on that rug. And he did. But like your dark blue, so did everything else. So I guess you are probably right - beige might be the way to go for carpets.
LORI - not to make this all about me, but you asked. Everything on me went bug-whacky this summer starting with my sciatica in April/May. My low back, my middle back, and both hips. All riddled with arthritis. Doctor says it's possible the car accident in Dec kind of caused all the arthritis to "flare" at the same time. Just a weak theory. I didn't't think we were hit that hard. My chiro says just being rear ended at 4mph can damage you. I think the guy hit us at 10-15 mph. But anyway, here I am - hard to walk, can't stand for long. Sometimes I get a little down about it, waiting for all the referrals to go through and doctors' offices to call - which none have yet. But then I'm thankful - I'm not having heart surgery! I don't have cancer! My knees are good! It's just hips and back. Can be fixed with somewhat simple surgeries. ( I hope!)
JANA - Aaron once again donned his cape! Lucky he was there! What an idiot to toss a lit cigarette into dry grass, especially at this time of year. Too much to hope that they caught him? Your new decorations sound really neat. Glad you were able to override Mr. G. I bought a few new fall decor items for our mantle yesterday. I haven't bought new decorations of ANY kind in many years. I am really enjoying them. And this morning Bill ordered me two new Yankee candles - pumpkin spice and bayberry. And he ordered them for my sister, too and is having them delivered to her today - without telling her. Surprise, Tina!
FLO - I'm not sure what wood-fired BBQ's are like unless they are built in. We have a Weber BBQ (on it's last legs, though), and Lee * Lara just got Bill a Blackstone for his birthday this summer. Have to say - we can cook most anything but soup on that thing and it all tastes wonderful. We can even put a saucepan on it to heat beans or veggies or soup!, etc. So how are those snickerdoodles coming along??.....
JUDI - enjoy lunch with your friend. You are probably there now. And as long as you are mopping kitchen floors . . . . mine is a bit of a disaster. I did get it swept yesterday though. Scottie's tail helps with that.
Well, I better get off here. I'm sure I've bored you all enough for today. Though I will be back this afternoon when I have to sit and be quiet after my shot. Foxy is here snuggled up to my side as usual so we will say adieu once again.

Re: Friday September 19,2025
Hi there!
I thought that I would share a bit of my organization of kits I do. I have a small, LOL, streak of trying to be organized. It's actually very large1
So with this Jane Austen Quilt - there are a ton of different fabrics called for. Some are large chunks and some are fairly small pieces. So I had several boxes of the Half gallon size Freezer Ziplock Bags. I don't use those bags much in the kitchen, so I thought that they may be useful down here in thee Batt Cave. They sure are! Just the right size for most of the fabrics. There are several large chunks that will be put in a gallon size ziplock. Now, the labeling of each fabric- at first the plan was to use my label printer, but those tapes are hard to find and expensive, so I punted to using a post it note with scotch tape to hold it to the ziplock bag. Much cheaper. And easy removal, when this project is done, that way I can re-use the ziplocks for another project. My fabrics fit in the ziplocks quite nicely and I have a place for the unused piece, until it is called for again. I hate hunting through the pile to find the piece I need, by looking at the picture in the instructions. These all fit in a ArtBin box, for easy retrieval when I am sewing on this BOM. I even label the ArtBin box with the name of the quilt.
So maybe this method or your own adaptation of it, may save you time and sanity in working from a pre-made quilt kit.
Oh, my instructions are in a plastic sleeve holder in a binder. I can use a erasable pen to mark on the out side of the sleeve, each step of the instruction as I have done it. Cutting, sewing, etc. those sleeves are reusable too. The current set I am using I had stashed in a drawer years ago.
Batt Cave time does get interrupted and all this helps me not lose track. there are plenty of squirrels that live down here! Some are named, Sarah, Mr G, Aaron, Ethan, Emma, Gracie, Lila, etc!
Jana
Sarah informed me that you need to use the "wet" erase type markers. The Frixi9n don't work. We got the Expo Wet Erase Markers, they work on the plastic sleeves

Jana, you are far more organized than I am. I just keep the fabrics stacked together. Neatly of course. Good thing Aaron was there to make the fire break.
Maryz, I didn't even think about the car accident, but yes that could have been a factor. At least there are replacement parts for the hips. I have a couple of friends that have had both hips done and they get around just fine. I won't be asking for you help with names. Doorknob...really?
Chriss, no I didn't buy the kit. I wanted to though. I think you'll be able to crush the 2 mile marked sooner than next year. I didn't even think about the fact that they don't put the ashtrays in cars any longer. I wonder if you can even get one for a vehicle?
Valerie, sounds like good news and bad news for your BIL. More good. Strange that they didn't remove the polyps.
Lois, glad the machine is running and your are quilting again.
I did grocery shopping and a few other things around the house today. I also worked the yard up the street. I started hand sewing the binding down on one quilt this afternoon while we had the A/C running. Also watch the Cubs lose their game. Now time to go watch Jeopardy with Bill.
Have a good sleep.

Jana, I have stored projects the way you described. I would suggest that the Post-It note be taped to the inside of the bag, facing out. That way it doesn't accidentally get pulled off. Speaking from experience.
