Memorial Day May 26th, 2025
Good Morning It is a gorgeous day here high will be 70 and sunny, We dodged all the rain and a lot of folks are up at their summer places getting things opened for the summer.
We will head to the kids this afternoon and cook burgers and hot dogs on the grill. Then sit on the patio and have conversations with whom ever doesnt have plans...Liam has to go get the Jetsky and bring it home and he might play a round of golf...Sophia will be home she says,,,Nolan we are not sure he may have to work...
The kids are back to school tomorrow but it is their last week of classes.
Tomorrow night will be dinner out with friends,,,Italian is planned,,,
I have one more label to make a binding to sew down and a top to quilt, I did start an enbroidery block and it is almost done,,,I pick it up between other chores and take a few stitches...last night I did a lot of it...
I am hoping to her about my machine maybe tomorrow. As loyal as i am to the LQS and owner I wish I would have gone somewhere where they had it in stock...( like Lyn did)....I would be playing with it now....
Well I need to get a little laundry going,,,changed the sheets on our bed,,and need that to be done before we go,,Might make a small bowl of potato salad for today the kids dont eat it just KEn and i,,,
Praying for those who need ( and those who dont know they need) Hope you are all enjoying the long weekend,,,XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Re: Memorial Day May 26th, 2025
Good rainy morning!
Happy Memorial Day to everyone.
I received a PM from BECCA this morning. She is at her DD's, Denise's, house. She is having heart problems, and is going in for surgery May 31st. She is having a pacemaker put in and is going on cardiac meds. And if these two measures don't do the trick, she will need further surgery. She gave no more details. She asked me to ask all y'all for prayers. She has had a rough time of it lately. I made sure she had my phone number and asked her to give it to Denise and have Denise send me a text post-op. If/when she does, I'll let you know.
JUDI - You and I will be twins today in the laundry room. Except that I don't have just a little. My hamper is smashed down and still overflowing, plus I got my summer clothes out of storage and they need washing, too. Sorry the kids don't like potato salad. My son doesn't like anything with mayo or salad dressing. I would eat a whole bowl if no one was watching! I'm bummed that your machine is still not set up in your sewing room. I think you should name her "Tardee" when she finally shows up! Putting Jeff's dad on my prayer list. How scary this must be for him.
LORI - It's so nice that your parents' house is so close. Mine lived only 2 miles from me - the farm where we all grew up. But we sold it in 1996. They had lived there since 1940. I didn't realize the orange kitty was coming to your parents. I thought he was visiting you at home. Does he look hungry or unkempt. Most orange kitties I've known are very friendly. Also most are male. Is this one female? I hope he needs a good loving home with two big brothers, We could call him/her "Tangerine".
MARY Q - I hope your quilts come back to you, all quilted. Does Viv know you'd like your Alaska quilt put at the top of your list right behind the wedding quilt? How many does she have there? I now have 4 in my quilting queue with one more to add when I get the blocks together. Today is a rainy day. Maybe one of mine will get loaded on the LA. It seems to take a rainy day for that to happen. Did you try butterflies on the towels? How did they turn out? What kind of towels? I'm picturing big thick turkish bath towels and wondering how that works in your machine. I think I'd use a towel that didn't matter for a practice run.
LYN - You don't have much time left in Estes if you're going to be in MO June 8. Sorry to hear about your sister's decline. Is she the sister who lives in Oregon and caring for her DH who has Alz? Wait - you only have one sister don't you? Will pray for her, too. My list is growing. Did you get a chance to play with your new baby yesterday?
CHRISS - I hear ya on the surprising reality of a calendar full of dr appts. It seems the First of May I suddenly fell apart and I'm about ready to call in all the king's horses and all the king's men to try to get me put back together again. You got to spend a day sewing? Did you work on Elliott's quilt at all or just charms? I think it's time Elliott got on his horse and made a visit to Gramma's house. He's almost old enough to start gumming cookies, a gramma's standby treat!
JANA - I know you love all your kids and grands, but imagine a weekend of peace and quiet is appreciated! How is Mr.s G's blood sugar doing? And your BP? When my sciatica was at its worst my BP shot up - pain will do that. My chiro suggested I take garlic capsules, a natural BP med. So I have been and have to say I think it's really helped. Yesterday it was 127/77.
VAL - $60 for a trim seems awfully high, but then my neighbor across the road - my walking buddy - paid $100 for a haircut and that was the standard price for the salon she went to. Too rich for MY wallet. Though I do spend that for Scottie to get his hair done. Hmmm..... maybe I need to rethink the allocation of my dollars!
LOIS - I would love it if my hairdresser came to me, but then she almost has - she's been in 3 different shops in the past year and with each move gets closer and closer to my house. Now I can walk there!
Yesterday I got BeWitched ready for the LA. Backing is pieced and binding made. Then I did the same for the two Halloween wall hangings I made while in Texas. I might start quilting them today on my Bernie. But first - big doin's in my laundry room! Where do all the dirties come from?!? Also, I found a recipe for Beef Burgandy made in the crockpot and served over hot noodles, so I'm going to try that for supper I guess I'm feeling domestic today.
Hoping y'all have a nice Memorial Day today. And don't forget to remember!

Re: Memorial Day May 26th, 2025
Y'all are much warmer than on the Mtn. It's 42° and only going to 52° and chance of thunderstorms later.
Judi, I'm sorry you don't have your machine. Mine is sitting on the dining room table, but I haven't had time to turn it on, was watching some of those videos when other stuff was done. I hope yours arrives tomorrow.
Lois, You posted a sunflower quilt, is this a second one or a different pattern?
MaryZ, I know my schedule is hard to follow. We will be in KS, MO, this coming Sunday. See Dr on Monday and Garry will get some IV treatments during the week. Then we leave for Canada June 8th, with an overnight stop at my Aunt's near Omaha. I appreciate your prayers for my Sis. Yes she's my only sister, the oldest, 83, and her hubby was moved last week to a memory care home. The stress of caring for him has taken a toll on her health.
I had to make 2 trips to the grocery store yesterday. They had been out of Strawberries Saturday, so went back for them, whip cream and crepes. Got home and realized I had been over charged by $22, so back I went. Long story as to how it happened, I won't bore you with the details. But I will check my notifications before leaving parking lot, it was a good reminder to do that.
I haven't played with my machine. I did watch some videos and put accessories in the box. I will have to move it off the table for today since Stacey and friend will be here for a late lunch, early dinner. Speaking of which, I need to prep the baby back ribs and get them on the grill. We'll also have Caraway Cabbage, rolls, maybe pork'n beans and Strawberries in crepes. Stacey doesn't eat much, like us. A beeping just started, I thought it was the smoke detector, nope. I had to look and found we have a carbon monoxide alarm that was sitting on a high chest of drawers. I didn't even remember us having one. Guess it needs new batteries.
Hope y'all have a good day.
Lyn

Re: Memorial Day May 26th, 2025
Good morning!
Beautiful day! Great day to remember and visit the graves of those who gave all and we love.
Quiet here still. Friends dropped by for a visit. It was fun. They planned a road trip to visit Tahoe and Yosemite this week. They have never been to either. So I had fun playing travel guide, since I've been there numerous times. Even drove by Chriss's road!
After breakfast is straightened up,, I'll be downstairs in with another group of friends, the bats and squirrels. My Giants play early this morning, so that will be on too.
Mr Grumpy's sugar has settled down this week after the meter reader was changed. It gives me fits for a few hours uutil the meter stabilizes, meter is good for 10 days, so we go through this often.
Well, breakfast is off and the fairies must be on strike, definitely not doing their job!
Hugs and prayers,
Jana

Re: Memorial Day May 26th, 2025
Good morning. It's going to be a great day today. I feel great and am so grateful for that. I was pretty worried.
I actually spent most of yesterday in my sewing room, doing a bunch of nothing, it was fun. At our October meeting my quilt group is having their annual bring the stuff you no longer want and see if someone takes it home day. I have stuff to gather up yet but will have fun doing that.
Today I want to make my cauliflower salad and sew some more. The floors could use a bit of vacuuming, but we will see if that happens. It probably won't.
Lyn, hope your sister decides to move to the assisted living part of the facility, it's hard to accept the fact that we need help. Humans are a stubborn lot. Prayers said for that family. Did you get your coverlet tied? I have an aunt near Omaha, she lives in Humbolt. Is it the same aunt? Perhaps were related.
Maryq, how did those dragonfly towels turn out? I had to do the CPAP thing so I could get the discount on my electric bill and my insurance requires me to have a check up every 6 months. I read the Pulmonologists report on my medical portal and he noted that I was a pleasant woman. I had never seen a comment like that. I also don't want to be a burden. Even when I had this episode I didn't want to bother my son. but I sure realized I am alone here.
Lori, I'm thinking you will soon be the proud owner of a little orange kitty. Might want to drag Miss Molly's things back out. Glad you got that closed in order. I'm enjoying your cleaning out adventure, curious to know how many times you smack the palm of your hand to your forehead and sigh. You're probably thankful it isn't a 5,000 square foot mansion. Hope you figure out those quilt tops and get them done.
Judi, I would love burgers and dogs on the grill. Hope that machine is ready for you tomorrow, What is taking it so long? Those kids sure have busy lives. Enjoy your Italian dinner, I'd have chicken parm.
Lois, laundry and sunflowers, sounds like a beautiful day.
Maryz, nice to walk to the places you need to go. Any more news on the offer to buy your house? I've often thought of moving or downsizing but untill my son picks out my rest home I will likely stay right here. I did work on Elliott's quilt, and on my squares. Just a bunch of nothing.
Jana, not sure which route your friends are taking but I read there is a fire near Mono Lake, I just saw the headline so don't know much about it. Your fairies certainly aren't here, but I wouldn't mind if they stopped by in their travels. Glad you two have all that BP and BS stuff under control.
My neighbor, who is a gardener, said he would weedeat the strip between my fence and road. Yesterday his workers showed up at his house and did his property, we have to have 100 foot clearance around buildings. I thought he would have them do that strip but it didn't happen. I'm not going to worry about it unless I have to., I have a decent clearance around my house. And I'm still a little nervous about working my body too much until I get results from various doctors.
Today I will do a little work around here then go play in my room. I have noticed that something is eating the leaves on my tomato plants so I will investigate it further
Not sure what dinner will be. I still have leftover roast, perhaps I will make it into a taco salad.
Have a wonderful day

Judi, bummer you haven't gotten your machine yet. Potato salad sounds good. I've been thinking about making it for a week now. Maybe today will be the day. Enjoy the afternoon with the kiddos.
Lois, did you already get the posh sunflower made?
Maryz, my Bewitched is still in pieces waiting to be sewn into blocks. I'll get to it someday. Yes, the house is very close. Jack and I walk up there in the morning to check on things. Thank you for the update on Becca. Hope the first surgery does the trick.
Lyn, glad your sister is getting help. People think they can do it all, but they just can't. It's an enormous responsibility taking care of someone with dementia, Alzheimer's, or any memory issue. Your meal sounds yummy.
Jana, glad Mr. G's monitor decided to behave. I'll be watching the Cubs play early as well.
Chriss, so glad you are feeling better. I bet a day in the sewing room helped with that. I haven't been sewing much at all. Just not feeling it. I am very grateful the house isn't too big. And yes, there are those hand to the forehead moments. Like the 3 drawer container with the 3 1/2 square computer disks with back up data for computers we no longer have. Why? I guess he just never got around to throwing them out. I was thinking tacos for dinner tonight too.
Valerie, what are you up to today?
Tina, are you done with all the graduations and such yet? Can you take a breath and sit for a bit?
Well I posted on the neighborhood network about the orange cat. Apparently he does have an owner behind my parents house. So he won't be coming to live with us, but I can still be his friend. There is a feral Tortie that comes into the yard as well. I've talked to her a few times, but she usually takes off when she see's me. I think she is the one eating the food. She comes around in the afternoon.
I'll go up and do a little work at dad's, then come home and watch the Cub game with Bill. I think we'll have tacos for dinner.
Have a lovely day.

MaryZ, I forgot to thank you for the Becca update. I will add her to my prayers.
Lori, Before you toss those discs, you might want to see if Dad still had a reader for them and check that there's not photos or something worth transferring.
