Re: MONDAY, January 13th, 2025
Sunny and heading to the mid 50's.
I never got here to even read yesterday, so I've been playing catch up this morning.
MaryZ, It was so good to see you again & to meet Bill and Autumn!! You were a busy teacher helping all those ladies. Carol and I loved looking at all your quilts. You do such beautiful work. Carol noted that several were applique, and that you must like doing applique. She's not a quilter that tackles that much. She has a wall hanging of a Road Runner that she bought about 5 years ago and is hesitant because it's applique. I need to post a couple pictures over in photos. Will you encourage Autumn to have a sign up sheet for next year and limit students or wing it like this year. I enjoyed watching you answer questions and the ones I spoke to were really enjoying themselves.
Y'all have been talking about the news and how they skew the truth. I'm sorry to say Walter Cronkite did his fair share of skewing news, especially the Vietnam War. My brother, Lanny, was a helicopter crew chief and gunner. When he returned and listened to Walter, Lanny would tell us the real story. We were told that we had no nukes there and had no plans to use them. Garry was on the U.S.S. Coral Sea and tells about a day when they were getting supplies from another ship. He was sitting in this room with 2 TV monitors, having a cigarette. On one TV was President Johnson giving a fireside chat and telling the American people that we had no nuclear bombs in Vietnam. On the other TV was the flight deck, which was being recorded in case of any accidents, and sitting there were 2 jets with Nukes ready to deploy at a moments notice. Garry, the Kansas farm kid, said to himself, "The President just lied to all the people at home!!" I will get off my soap box now.
How Great Thou Art is one of my favorites, my Grandma Hansen would play it on the piano and we would sing.
The men are in the cabin taping the sheet rock. I need to ask the main guy when he thinks they will be done, so I can call the electrician and HVAC guys and get on their schedules. I have some computer work to do and some laundry.
Prayers for all the needs in our country. Have a good day.
Lyn

Lyn - when Garry was on the Coral Sea getting supplies, more than likely it was from the USS Mattaponi. That was a tanker supply ship that Michael served on while he was in Viernam. His ship supplied many of the carriers out there. Even up the Mekong delta and the swift boats. Michael served two tours out there.

Jana, I forgot that I wanted to ask you about a video I saw on YouTube yesterday. It was an interview of Jenny Doan and the show was call Create or something like that. It was very interesting and when it was over the info said it was a Ladder Days Saints production. I was going to copy the link and send to a friend, but I hit something wrong and it was gone and I couldn't find it. Do you know what I'm talking about?
I just asked Garry, but he doesn't remember that ship name, but it has been a few years.

Lyn, they bought out Jenny Doan about 8 years ago.
She's just the face. I found that out when we were there in fall 2017.

Hi everyone
I finished my first of 6 placemats this morning!
Then we had lunch, Jazmyne showed up just before lunch and she's getting another welding lesson from Papa here in a few minutes.
I love How Great Thou Art too
I was going to say something but now I forgot what it was.....
I'll post a pic of my placemat on the photos section.
I hope you all have a great day!
Prayers for all in need
Tina

Lori, Who bought out what part of MSQC?
Jana, I found the video.
This is the link if anyone is interested. Jenny does speak some of her faith, but she told some stories of the start up of MSQC that I hadn't heard or read before.

Went and watched the Jenny Doan videol. I didn't know until now that, yes she's a member of the church. It was fun to watch and recognize key phrases commonly used with members of the church. We have own own jargon - language phrases and you can usually recognize a member. Strange to some, but what the hay, we are strange!
I asked Michael about the Coral Sea and he said yes, his ship serviced the Cora Sea many many times. In fact, they docked next to each other all the time and many times Michael would have to go 8nto shore leave and gather his shipmates up from bar fights with the sailo on the Coral sea.

Lyn, when I was at Missouri Star quilt company back in 2017, they were talking about the church taking over. Something to do with the land. I don't know anything more. We were there right after the 5 year anniversary of the main store opening. I think there were 14 stores we went though in all. It's quite impressive. Aurifil had just put up a giant thread spool and we wound some thread onto it. I would like to go back some day.
Jana, I'm surprised you didn't know she was part of the Church. "Bee Happy" quilt is one of my favorites I hope to make one day.
Tina, you placemat is quite adorable. Love the candy hearts with sayings. Do you quilt the fabric before you embroider on it?
Chriss, how was your walk? Yes it would be fun to travel and meet everyone. Let's go on a road trip.
Maryz, get in all the time you can with the little miss. You know you are going to be missing that little cutie pie. Sounds like your class went well. If at least 2 people keep quilting, that's 2 new quilters to carry on the tradition. Loaded baked potatoes sounds yummy.
Judi, I too have several in progress quilts. I hope to finish a few this year, but who knows what will happen.
Maryq, I'd stay in if it was that cold.
I had my teeth cleaned this morning, so I'm good for 6 months. Jack and I walked before that, so he was happy. I need to do some pick up around here. I got some White on White fabric yesterday to Veteran quilts. I had stars cut out, but not enough white for setting. I guess I wasn't thinking when I did that a while back. I'll go see dad in a bit, then off to my line dancing lesson tonight. It's quite windy again today. I sure hope no new fires start up.
I might make baked potatoes with left over chili for dinner.
Have a lovely day.

Re: MONDAY, January 13th, 2025
Lori, no I'm doing the quilting last. I put the top, batting and a thin piece of fabric that wasn't going to be used for anything and put that in my embroidery hoop and did the embroidery kids. Then I marked it all for quilting but made my hearts and then appliqued those on.... kinda made it easy to get them all in pretty much the same place in each one with my quilting line grids. Now I'm doing the quilting and then putting binding on each one as I get them quilted to kinda break up what I'm doing. It looks like I'll have 32 hours in for these 6....I tell you I'm slow. And I had to babysit the embroidery machine in case it breaks a thread or has trouble.... which of course that happened and then some LOL

Tina, you did a really nice job quilting around the shapes and keeping your grid perfect.
