THURSDAY, Sept 26th
Good morning,
Fall is definitely here. Yesterday was 64* and rainy. We really needed the rain and I was grateful for it, but I sure miss 75* and sunny! Today - we're splitting the difference - 67* and partly sunny.
JUDI - how is our patient this morning. Pain level? PT? Activity? Sleep? Appetite? Ambulation? How far are you from home and your kids?
LORI - Bummer about another lost key. I wonder where he's putting them. I hope you have duplicates made of all the important keys and are hiding them in a new place where he can't get to them. And maybe you could replace them with useless keys so he has keys to "put away" and it won't matter if they are lost. Maybe put a very large keychain on them in a bright color so they would be easier to find? Your drawing class sounds fun. I remember you said you signed up to take 3 'fun' classes just for yourself.
TINA - How was your play day with the kids? Did you work on Dad's house? I've been cleaning my closet and dresser, too, bit by bit. Just like Dad, I have too much.
CHRISS - That is a huge ask to help your cousin move his furniture across country. And to put Moose in a kennel?? Poor Moose - he has already had a very traumatic year. I think your cousin should have the stuff shipped. Or fly out, you pick him up and take him to a U-Haul place and let him rent a truck. Good to hear little Buster is gaining weight. I hope your kids are finally starting to feel more comfortable as parents and invite you to come meet your new grandson soon.
BECCA - I just recently read that there are more than 20,000 varieties of apples. And they are coming up with new ones all the time. I remember my parents had 3 apple trees - old fashioned varieties - gravenstein, northern spy, and transparent. My grandpa's hobby was grafting fruit trees so my dad tried it too and we had one limb on the transparent tree that had different apples on it.
SHARONA - praying your next hospital adventure won't be quite the dog and pony show your last one was. I like your hospital protocol to leave patients undisturbed for 6 hours during the night. Healing takes place while sleeping. And no, I never got into my sewing room yesterday, but I did finish all I could do in our trailer. And even got all I've collected (so far) to go to the Texas kids - Christmas gifts and just 'stuff' - packed in there. So now I can close the door, literally, on that project. But now fall yardwork awaits. . . . So what is your next sewing project going to be?
MARY Q - you bought a 2025 calendar with missing pages?? lol~ I got a new calendar last week and it wasn't until I got it home realized it was a 2024! At least it was free. And I put it into the trailer because we will still have Nov and Dec when we hit the road. Did you get that table cleared off so you can go sew guilt-free?
JANA - I think I finished my fall decorating - I put out four quilts in fall colors and swapped out the door wreath. I have a half-full tote of stuff out in our shop but it's too much trouble to ask Bill to get it down for me. How is Mr. G doing with his PT? Is it making a difference?
DIANE - how did your hubby do yesterday? Praying the side effects are minimal.
LYN - I saw a thing this morning from a friend who lives in South Texas - "It's fall y'all in Texas! And you know what that means! Nothing! It's still 90+ degrees!" lol! I have learned, after having my DNA done, that a person's appeal or non appeal to mosquitoes is partially genetic. They loved Mom which is why Daddy always wanted her to go fishing with him. If she was there, they left him alone and he could fish in peace. Such a sweetie, he was. BTW, I inherited my "tastiness" from my mom. Those skeeters love me, too!
LOIS - how goes the learning curve? Are you having fun yet? I think I'll be using your ham casserole recipe tonite. I have lots of leftover ham. Maybe I'll make one and freeze one.
So, I'm done in the trailer - it's ready to pack for Texas. We leave 6 weeks from tomorrow. I'm getting excited about that! But in the meantime, I have a house to clean and a yard to put to bed for winter, a SS gift to finish, and a quilt top to get together. Star Silhouette that I have been working through the summer just as a scrap user-upper. Blocks are 4-1/2" unfinished and I need about 374 blocks. I have about 1/3 of the blocks made. There is no special reason for this quilt other than to use up the gazillion 2-1/2" squares I have. I have a few projects kitted up for trailer sewing this winter. The same ones I made up last winter but never got to. Plus a kit I bought in Alaska for a little quilt for Amara for her 2nd birthday in April. I'll take it south, too.
But now - time to go find another cuppa and get ready for my morning walk. Scottie did great yesterday for 1.5 miles but he was ready for a rest when we got home.
Have a terrific day!

Re: THURSDAY, Sept 26th
Good morning!
Mother Nature has a sense of humor! We are hitting record breaking heat temps and it's the end of September! You see, I just bought two new winter coats and they arrived yesterday. Definitely a need to wait before they are needed!
Judi - hope you are doing well today and settling in to PT.
Mt G is doing well with his PT. We did get the days between sessions spread out to a more even timing. We have a few more weeks of this that the insurance pays for. Additional may come from our pocket. He has no PT until tomorrow.
The Batt Cave is straightened up. The girls and I got it done lickety split. Then Gracie had activity day, so Lila and I took her there. It was at a park, so Gracie went with her group and I watched Lila play on the monkey bars. That little girl is a born monkey! Every time I looked to check on her, she was hanging upside down! Aaron got off duty early, so I didn't have to stay long. This park is about a half block from their new house.
Not much interesting here. Hopefully a boring day, playing in the Batt Cave.
Daniel and Kari had parent teacher conferences for Karlie. She's doing great, above grade level and giving her teacher a run for her money-- in soaking up what's being taught. Karlie is very observant and out thinks most adults. The little stink!
Well time to come up with something for breakfast. Mr G eats the same thing every morning, me I like new and different. Maybe cake - heck, it's got eggs, milk, and taste.
Hugs,
Jana

Re: THURSDAY, Sept 26th
Good morning. It's going to be a busy couple of days here.
I get to go see my grandson on Sunday. My kids are completely overwhelmed. My son said he doesn't know how a single parent does it. My job, make food and put it in freezer containers so they can thaw and eat. I'll be cooking a lot of things in the next few days and taking frozen dinners to them on Sunday. I also will do some dusting, moping and other house work while I am there. I feel like I finally am getting to take part. I hope I can show them that they need to relax and it will get better. It feels so good to be able to help.
Tina, even after cleaning out your dads closet he still has more clothes than I do. cleaning out the excess is a huge job but it feels so good to lighten the load.
Lori, glad your classes are going well. I hope dad can always find his keys. I didn't forget to say no. The trip with my cousin sounded fun until the time gone was doubled and I realized what it would cost him. I've given him other options because I think he sees the cost involved now. Hoping he figures out other options. He really doesn't want everything he is going to move home but his wife does.
Maryz, sounds like you are ready to get set to go to Texas. Hope, for you, the next six weeks flies by. I googled Star Silhouette what a beautiful quiltl that will be. Miss Amara will love her Alaska quilt, hard to believe it's been two years.
Lois, you are always so busy. Sounds like your new machine will live in luxury in its new spot, with a dresser full of supplies. What a bunch of fun you will have.
Jana, so fun to have little kids and see their energy. I had cake yesterday. I bought a square of carrot cake and ate it on the way home from the grocery store. It was awfully sweet and I've had my fill of cake for a while. I pretty much eat the same thing over and over here. Too much mess and leftovers for one person so I don't cook much.
Well, I need to move my butt, time's a waistin'. I'm going to put a roast in the crock pot with potatoes and carrots, and since the potatoes will be out I will also make some scalloped taters. Over the next few days I will also make meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, chicken fettuccini alfredo, chicken enchiladas with green sauce, deviled eggs, and before I leave here on Sunday I will make breakfast burritos. Lots of things give my DIL inigestion so I am trying to make some bland things. Maybe I'll also put together salad fixings, just add lettuce.
But first, a shower and breakfast. You all have a fantastic day.
Chriss

Re: THURSDAY, Sept 26th
Good sunny Morning!!
AACCHHHh we're back in a heat wave!!! The poor geese are going to get so confused. They are starting to fly south to get warmer weather for the winter, I bet they are thinking they might as well stay here!! Might have to turn the AC back-it's been so wonderful without these last few days!
Maryz.. Oh my, I've never heard of those apple varieties! I remember Dad talking about Prairie Spys. Here we see a lot of Haralson, Granny Smith, Red Delicious (which I don't think are delicious at all) Cosmic Crisps are my new favorite, or Honey Crisp if I can't find Cosmics. I have an apple every night and call that my dessert, which reminds me, I'm almost out! OH Gosh... only 6 weeks until you hit the road again!!! Seems like you just got home from Texas. My DB and Sil aren't going to go to Texas this winter, they are going to stick around home this year.
Lois...Gotta love those little plastic drawer things! I have 2 with deep drawers by my emb. machine and a tall one just for thread. KC left two behind, so I have those too and one is just full of yarn! Will you get Billy to come over and haul the machine upstairs?
Jana.... Sounds like we are in the same weather pattern!! I'm with you... cake for breakfast! "Life is too short to say no to cake" Oh how I miss it! I don't dare bake it or I'd eat the whole thing!
Chriss... Wonderful news that you get to go see Elliott on Sunday! Look at it this way.. you may not ADD to the stress. Is Richard home some or is he back to work. When I brought Jen home, Dex dropped me off and went back to work---no work no pay! A road trip to North Carolina? Can't say that would be on my bucket list, especially at the expense, unless somebody else was covering all those expenses. I'd really have to LOVE that cousin to spend that much time of the road with him. (I do have a couple cousins, but I think we'd kill each other on a long road trip like that---we are political opposites!) There just has to be a better way. How about a POD? I hear they are pretty expensive tho.
Lori....How is the care giver working out for Dad. Did you ever find his set of keys? I'm terrible at losing things, not really losing but just not remembering where I put things. Silly as it sounds St. Anthony usually comes through!
Tina.... My gosh you have been working hard at Dad's!!! I don't think my table will be completely cleaned off until after I pack up all the stuff for the craft fair. I have it kind of laid out to price mark and count etc. Have fun with the kids!
Sharon.... Do you have a good Chinese take-out place? There are 5 pizza places within 2 miles of my house, but only 1 Chinese place and it's not that good!! I think I'm going to get out my recipe book and see if I can make my own. I have made my own Teriyaki chicken --but it's just a jar of sauce and cooked chicken!
Becca... I had one of those apple-peeler-corer things too once upon a time. Not sure what happened to it. There are a few apple orchards around here and I'd love to stop by one and pick up enough to make some applesauce. I love a little sauce with cottage cheese.
Gotta get my public face on this morning. Going up to Walgreens to get my Covid update shot, will save the flu shot for another day. Then I'll come home and maybe throw in a load of laundry or two. Katie is forcing me to go with her to a big fabric sale in a little town about an hour away---where she used to live. I bought a bunch of stuff from this gal not long after I moved here. I'm taking limited funds so I don't go too crazy. When I cleaned out the quilt tops I had hanging in the bathroom--I know, odd place--I made a list of which ones need backing so will take the list with me to see what I can find. You know how that goes.. you think you have enough fabric, except for the one right color!
Have a most wonderful day every body!

Re: THURSDAY, Sept 26th
Lori - I got thinking about those missing keys. Have you thought about attaching a chain to the key and then securing that assembly to the door, so it can not be taken away? But still usable. We had a glass door with a deadbolt keyed on both sides that the key lived attached nearby by. And give your Dad a fake key, so he thinks he has one and will leave the others alone.

Re: THURSDAY, Sept 26th
Greetings -
Been up since before dawn - we have a new area rug coming today and a phone call with the finance lady and then a dental appointment so my time is very limited today. We are also back up to the 80s but at least it's getting down to the 40s at night. Dinner tonight is homemade pizza.
Maryz - I will be starting a thing that goes over the arm of the couch and holds scissors, pins, needles, etc.
Maryq - our chinese place is about 35 miles from here. The local one uses WAY too much salt. I actually got a vietnamese noodle bowl last night and it was delecious.
Chriss - I sure hope the kids get their baby legs soon (instead of sea or land legs..!). You will be such a blessing to them. I was a single mom and it isn't an easy road. I was also very young and too stupid to know to be scared. lol I had my family close by and that made a huge difference.
Lois- ghost pillows sound so cute.
Jana - I would also get bored of the same thing every day for any meal.
Have a glorious day! xoxo Sharona

Re: THURSDAY, Sept 26th
Howdy from the Jeep dealership near Burnet, TX. I was up before the sun and here to have a front end alignment done on the Jeep at 9. They said it was done, I paid and drove down the road. Maybe I'm too picky, but when the tires are going straight, the steering wheel should be level and not angled to the right. So, I turned around and came back. It's back up on the lift.
MaryQ, Have you tried Orange Chicken? It's in the freezer section. Easy to heat up. 3, 2, 1 cake allows you to have a small treat, without messing up your glucose much.
Chriss, WooHoo!! I bet when you get there on Sunday, with all that good food and grap a dust cloth, your kids are going to apologize for not having you visit/help sooner. Remember to give extra hugs from all us Auntie's.
MaryZ, I liked your comments. Did your Mom ever figure out she was bait while your Dad fished?
Judi, Hope you're doing good.
Never got the insurance reviewed yesterday. The Surveyor office emailed and said I needed to come in for a meeting, to clarify what needs to be done. The guy had a noon appt time available, so that's what I did. Then stopped at 2 flooring stores to see what they had, compared to what I have found at Lowe's.
Hope everyone has a good day. Prayers for those in need.

Re: THURSDAY, Sept 26th
And I'm back!
Chriss, So glad you have been called up! Yay!! Super Gramma will arrive to save the day! You are going to be a very busy gramma between now and Sunday. Will you be gone just one day or will you stay with them for a while? I've used U-Hauls in the past - Mike and I once moved to Denver - and then back again. I believe it's a whole lot cheaper than having your things shipped. And you can do one-way rentals. They have all sizes of enclosed cargo trailers, car dollies, and trucks.
I've been working outside in my front yard. Got a lot done but there's tons more to do. I've let it go too long. Judi texted me and said she hasn't been able to stop in here yet today and asked me if I could say 'hi' for her. She had PT today and it was rough, but she got through it. She is worn out. Plus she had family visiting so she's been a busy little patient. But she's been thinking of you!
I'm getting ready to prep supper - Lois's ham casserole. If I had some split peas I would make soup - my favorite - but since I don't - casserole it is! Then I'm going to sit down and read my book, a cozy mystery by Livia Washburn.
See all y'all tomorrow!

Re: THURSDAY, Sept 26th
Good early evening from a dreary, but warm, SW. Pa...We've had bits of rain off and on most of the day and then the sun comes out....Oh Mother Nature can't make up her mind what season it is....Just ask Jana and Maryq.....
I know I'm late but I had to check to see how Judi was doing....Think about her so often and hope and pray it's not too painful...Each day should be better and then before long, you'll wonder why you didn't have it done earlier....Judi, if you come this way, sending lots of prayers and good wishes....
And Chriss, going to see Elliot, Oh my, so exciting.....Hope he doesn't do to you what our Chris' 1st one did to me...I left work, still in my white uniform and flew to the hospital....Well, little Erin waited for Grammy and she filled her diaper and me! Then I had to stop back home and change before I could go back to work.....She's soon 40 and I frequently remind her of her nasty welcome....But, I'm sure the kids will be so glad to see you (and your food) and hopefully, you can put their minds at ease....This kid isn't going to break! Can't wait to hear.....And I sure hope your cousin comes up with a good solution on getting the furniture to N. C. Probably would be cheaper to rent a UHaul.....But that's not your problem, you have a baby to concentrate on with lots of smooches......
MaryZ Just thinking about Amara, and you know, these kids are growing up much too quickly....Maeve will be 2 in December and the new one is due in 2 weeks (another girl)...They have a lot going on right now, their closing is tomorrow on their new house and they will be moving this weekend and then the baby.....I had already crocheted an afghan for the baby but now have a quilt in mind...But, then that also means, I need to have something for Mauve......You had asked what I was making for the craft show...I had finally gotten those panels to make the books...2 different ones, 1 is the night before Christmas and the other is the birth of baby Jesus, so dang cute........Last year they sold out before I was even unpacked...Another big seller is the square box tissue covers...They were gone and I ended up with a bunch of orders...Everything will be holiday mode and right now, having a hard time finding Christmas dish towels...I've been making table runners, hot pads, pot holders, little quilted Christmas trees and being in Steeler country, I have to make some of these things in Black and Gold fabric! As long as either of my machines keep going, I'll be OK, lol......Of course my sewing room is really, really bad! And guess who came home today with another huge bag full from JoAnn Fabric's....I told my sister, don't call me, I'm staying home...We'll see how long before she gets the urge to play cards!
Lyn, hope by now, the wheels are on right and you're going the right direction....I need to get my Ruby inspected, she was due in August and that's one thing, I just don't think about...Maybe next week......I have been seeing lots of videos about the elk at Estes Park (think I'm spelling it right)...Those things are giants and alot of them were just laying in the front yards....Do you have any when you are there? I love, love to see any type of wild creature.....
Jana, Maybe by buying those 2 coats is a way of keeping winter away...And if it is, I'll be buying very soon....And nothing wrong with eating cake for breakfast. Like you said, it has the eggs, flour, etc...Kathy always had cake in her house when the kids were growing up and if they got tired of the normal stuff, she figured, having some cake was better than nothing.....
Well, not my dinner is over....Had half of a steak/cheese hoagie left over from last night...I've been running all day, picking up RX for me and my sister, getting a few things from Walmart (and if I ever go there again, it will be too soon) , of course my stop at JoAnn's and then a 2nd trip back to get another RX and also pay my taxes.....Hopefully, tomorrow will be my day all day with no phone calls or appointments......
You all have a great rest of the evening..............
