SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Sept 27th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Sep 27, 2023 6:22 am

Good morning,

We got rain! Lots of it! We're getting a month's worth all in two days. We need it badly, but good gosh! It's a lot of water all at once!

Yesterday was lots of cleaning. I'm all ready for company today for lunch. Only two friends coming - nurses and former co-workers in NICU. Two of our group passed away in Jan and Feb so it's odd to only be just 3 of us now. After the cleaning flurry, I had a few hours in the sewing room and got all those rascally lemurs finished! Whew! If there are any spare moments today I'll trim the blocks. Tomorrow, I hope to get the top assembled. I still haven't figured out my backing yet - I have lots of 5-yd cuts in flannels and cottons, but most are themed - Christmas, fall, Americana, kids, etc. None are lemur themed. lol! I'm excited now to start the first unicorn quilt. Those blocks are 24" square but thankfully, I'll only be making 4 of them.

TINA - We are the opposite - we like to eat light in summer and to us soup is a light meal. Plus, many soups can be served cold. But it also warms us up on cold winter days! I have quite a bit of pork roast left over so I may make pozole with it. Tomorrow. Scottie rubs against our couches, too. Unfortunately, our loveseats in the living room are floral with white background and he's a black dog! Bill took the little Green Machine to them last year and it really helped. But it was a LOT of hard work. He doesn't get ON the furniture much, but does rub against it when he's wet from rain or bath. - glad you came back and reported good success with your furniture! $110 for 3 hrs of work that you didn't have to do sounds like a good deal to me!

BECCA - sorry you won't be having family dinner tonite. Maybe you and your friend could go out? Or go back to your apartment for a visit? gin rummy? a movie? I'm so glad Frankie's parents were on their toes and took her to the ER. And happy to hear she is doing better now. You are right - kids do much better than adults with most diseases. And you're right about dogs, too. (and cats!). They can be a hassle but they bring so much love and companionship they are worth it. Are you allowed any pets where you live? A thing on white squirrels popped up on my phone yesterday with a lot of photos. I immediately thought of you. They are very rare. You have something special there! I guess they are your pets!

CAROL - have you made the carrying case for those Nativity figures yet? If so, do you think they will all fit? I'm going to save mine until next Christmas. At 8 months, I don't think Amara is quite ready for it just yet. She's more interested in the cats right now.

I'm making chicken enchiladas and Mexican rice for my luncheon today and I know there will be plenty for Bill to have for his supper tonite. My two friends, Pat & Carol, are bringing salad and dessert. It will be good to catch up with them. Last time we were together was in March.

What are you planning for YOUR supper?

Good morning all ๐ŸŒž
Mary, how nice to be getting rain! You're so lucky!! And you finished the lemurs, wow, high 5 to you! I forgot who this one is for, I'm thinking someone that Autumn knows?
Here eating light in summer is a lot of cold salads LOL, the cooler the better. I love eating soups but just not when it's as hot as the soups.
Sorry you're down to only 3 coworkers left. I hope you enjoy your lunch.
How do you keep your animals off the couches? Ours as soon as they're big enough to get up here they do. I actually thought or couches were only 5 or 6 years old, turns out they're 10 and have gone through lots of washings with grandkids and dogs. I noticed yesterday that 2 seats have gotten really threadbare where Duncan rubs across the fronts. The man that cleaned them did a really thorough job. I'm really hoping I can get 5 more years out of them ๐Ÿคž
Carol, I think I missed who you're making the nativity set for.
Tonight is Dad's night so I put pork chops in the fridge last night to thaw, we haven't had them for awhile. I'll make rice and a veggie to go with.

Good Morning,

Maryz - I think you are right that a less than one or one year old is too young for the Nativity, however the parents or grandparents can use them to tell a story. Probably a two-, three- or four-year-old is also too young and needs to be told the story. I do think the bag is too small and am thinking of getting a plastic scrap box (16" x 16" x 3") to keep the figures and bag inside, however maybe just another tote would work??
Enjoy your lunch today with your friends! Happy Birthday to your friends.

Tina - I am making Nativity figures for my Niece's son. He has his first birthday next week and will be baptized on October 7th.

This afternoon during zoom I will be working on the Nativity figures and hopefully figure out the quilting design for the background of the Halloween quilt. I am getting stump. I know what I want but having trouble executing a design. (I want it to be cloudy, but the spaces are really small.)

I want to make salad tonight. I bought some beets at the Farmer's Market yesterday and have a recipe for using them in a salad. DH really likes beets.

Carol

Maryz - You got me thinking. I thought of how Jana's family acts out the Christmas story on Christmas eve. In small families that doesn't quite work and the felt Nativity figures could act out the story. So, I decided to look up a book to go with the Nativity figures. I will pick it up later. It is a simplified version written for young children. It is a board book.

I've been busy this week. Nothing important, just stuff. Yesterday I worked on a Christmas quilt with friends. We are going to raffle it off and donate the money to our guild. We had 15 different people making blocks. Needless to say, we had to rework 9 of them. They were too small or wonky.
The center is done, now borders and applique on the borders.

This weekend we'll be going to a quilt guilds sewing room tour and tea. Looking forward to that. I just got home from the farmers market. My city has one on Wednesday morning, but I hadn't been to this one in years. I got some yummy fruits and veggies, and also some honey.

Becca, I bought some yummy peaches just to eat. I saw you were having a peach sauce tonight.

Carol, my Halloween quilt is up next to be quilted. I'm just waiting on my thread from Superior. I'm using orange silk. It's pretty, but doesn't stand out too much. I'm just doing a simple cross hatch, so I need thread to not take over the quilt.

Tina, we bought an 8 foot leather couch years ago because we let our dogs on the couch. And we needed room so I could actually sit on the couch too. lol Dogs have oil in their coats which makes fabric yucky.

Mary, Have a fun lunch with your friends. Enchiladas sound yummy. Mexican is always a favorite around here.

My QIAD order should arrive today. Can't wait.

Dinner will be Pasta and veggies.

Have a lovely day. /color]

Hi all, I'm back. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
Carol, that's a great idea to give the book along with the set.
Becca, that's what I said too about more animals plus with what the vets are charging these days is more of a luxury to have pets on fixed incomes. The 3 we have now will be our last ๐Ÿ’”
Lori, I've had dogs my whole life but mom always had couches that she'd just zip the cushion covers off and throw in the washer with woolite and they'd last for years and years. When I got a house and furniture of my own I always did the same thing until this set, they don't have cushions with zippers. I think washing those cushion covers helped the fabric last longer. I'll look into leather next time or the weave fabric they say is kid friendly cause it doesn't show dirt but also cause that's the kind that can be washed.....I think that makes it Mom friendly actually ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚
I did buy one of the nativity sets but I'm either going to make a wall hanging, tree skirt or table runner out of it.... not this year though, I'm a tad busy.
Tina
