Saturday April 1st
Good morning everyone.
We are supposed to have some bad weather today. After some rain we are supposed to have some pretty high winds. I have my machines all unplugged just in case we lose power. Even tho they are all plugged into a surge protector. Better safe then sorry. Today I am going to turn the binding on the 2nd memory quilt and start sewing the binding down. I heard from my dr with the results from my lab work. My diabetes is acting up. When I was first diagnosed with it my dr never told me what I was supposed to do beyond checking my blood. So I have been on my own and will check the American Diabetes page when I have questions. I even tried going to an endocrinologist and he wasn’t worried about it. He said I was doing fine. I will be going on Medicare this year. So maybe I can get help that way. Well, I hope everyone has a great day. If you are in the path of these storms be careful.

Good morning Suzette. I too am seeing my glucose numbers out of wack. Seeing my doctor April 7. Might have to change my meds this time. Good luck with your challenge.
We just had those terrible storms last night. Weatherman was on preempting all programming to bring us detailed coverage. It's still very, very windy this morning. Hope you all stay safe. Hope the storm weakens some as it reaches the east.
You are wise to unplug machines. Smart move!
Time for my coffee
Have a good day . A GREAT day!

Good morning Vel,
I just looked out the window and it is pouring rain. I hope the wind passes us by.

Re: Saturday April 1st
Good morning for a while. We are in line with the storm also. So I'm going to the store early for some ingredients for a chili as a surprise for hubby. We'll have it tomorrow. I never made it, a friend won 2nd place in the chili cook-out here a few years ago and gave me the recipe. Fingers crossed for a success.
Thurs we leave to NY. Lily's will be 14 today--hubby will be 72 on the 13th--and Easter is Sunday. Its a triple celebration. We'll be there 1 week. Should be a lot of fun. The GGD's have grown up so fast.
Yesterday was fun at the presentation. 26 quilts were given all Vietnam Vets. After I helped pin them with a small pin commerating the war. (spelled wrong) Very touching.
Well coffee and the store then can start sewing for a while. I'm waiting for the pattern Aguave from Laundry basket quilts. I have the FQ bundle used in it so I'll give it a whack.

Re: Saturday April 1st
Good morning,
We saw on national news last night that big storms are headed across the country. I hope everyone stays safe!
SUZETTE - I never completely trust surge protectors either. Great to have for insurance, but wise to take more precautions. Is your furbaby feeling any better? I would look for some nutrition classes to take, or at least get some diabetic cookbooks if you don't have any. I have several I got at thrift shops because it's a health diet, plus we have friends who are diabetic. When the come for supper I try to cook things that don't take them too far off their diet.
VELDA - I hope your A1C comes back into line. Some hospitals/med ctrs offer classes to the community on living with diabetes, heart issues, etc., and diets to follow for each. Also, there are stand alone nutritionists you could consult, or do some research on line. And there are oodles of diabetic cookbooks on the market, in thrift shops, libraries, etc.
BECCA - good to hear all is well with your family, especially the new baby. What is her middle name? We won't be seeing our baby until Thanksgiving, either. But I'm hoping for a lot of facetime!
DIANE - happy birthday to Lily. (love her name!) You really have a fun week ahead of you on LI! That was a lot of quilts you presented!
JANA - did you get those flowers straightened out? You've reminded me I want to send flowers to Mama Autie when our baby is born - pink carnations and white baby's breath - just what her dad gave her and me when she was born. Thank you for reminding me not to go the internet route.
VALERIE - It's April. Going to be a busy month for you! How are things going? My 4 lotto blocks are in the mail to MQ. Where is your DGS getting married? Any chance they could double up the weddings?? How is Dad doing? You say your DGS seems to know little about putting on a wedding, but what about his bride and her family?
JUDI - I know the weather isn't optimum, but I'm betting you are having a good time anyway. Enjoy!
MARY Q - happy birthday tomorrow to Corinne. I can't believe your grands are getting up there in age! We have a St. Vincent de Paul here. I do know that Goodwill takes any fabric items. If they aren't in decent enough shape to sell, they do just like you said - shred them and sell them to insulation companies. So you can always donate even the worst clothing, towels, linens, etc.
CHRISS - I"m wondering what the dr had to say yesterday. There are support groups for cancer patients. Some people find it helpful, just talking to other cancer patients who are going through the same thing. Do you think Jerry would find something like that helpful? Someone - Val? - mentioned Jerry being a firefighter. I'd forgotten that. He was, wasn't he? There may be some benefits if it can be determined that his ca or the calcification of his lungs was caused by toxins encountered while fighting fires. Something to look into, perhaps.
Yesterday was a cool, misty day here. Not much real rain. We had our first Boondocker Fri night, a young couple and she was a horse trainer on her way to a big training event. Not sure if she trained the horses or the riders. We meet interesting people. . . After laundry and other uglies, I got the binding on my Christmas Swap quilt, made a bit of progress on my HSH swap, and started working on Kumquat's kitty cat quilt. I fused cats onto my 10" background squares, stacking them up as I ironed them. Then I took the stack to my sewing machine and started my blanket stitching on the cats. I was well under way on one cat when I realized I'd picked up two by mistake and was stitching through them both! That was when I shut down the machine, took both those blocks and my seam ripper and a glass of wine downstairs and sat down in front of the fire and the TV and started picking those stitches out. Argghhh.... But today is a new day and I plan to make it a good one! I have three cats stitched down and 13 to go. I'm using 30's reproduction fabrics, but I chose mostly little cats in the prints. And I have a whole shelf of various cat fabrics to choose from to use for sashing and borders.
I talked to Autumn last night and she's ready now to be un-pregnant. She has a dr appt Monday to discuss C-section plans. Unless baby turns or she goes into labor I expect delivery to be late next week. I can't wait!
Have a great Saturday! And extra prayers for Chriss & Jerry.

P.S. You guys got me. I was holding out on the On Wander Lane but today QIAD has all 12 patterns on sale for 40% off. I think total was $86. I couldn't resist. To get free shipping, they also had some little pink sleepers, size 9-12 months, on sale so I got those, too, you know, just in case I meet a new little girl in the near future.

Wow! I was curious about Wander Lane. I went to QIAD site to explore. That is a challenging project!! Is the border made up of more pieced smaller blocks? This gal won't tackle that one. I admire all of you who are doing this one. Amazing!!

Good Morning Girls
Well, Mother Nature sure played an April Fool's Joke on us!!! It rained off and on a bit yesterday but late last night it all turned to full time snow! During the night the power went out for a while. I'm guessing we got another oh maybe 6-8" Hard to tell looking out my window, as the wind has blown some drifts again! Just when I thought we were done.... as lots had melted last week. I should have run into town yesterday ---need to pick up an Rx...
I think the geese that were flying home to Minnesota are probably really confused!!
Suzette.... When you were first diagnosed with diabetes... the Dr. didn't send you to classes or a nutritionist etc? I thought that that was like a given... you get a glucometer, strips etc and sent to diabetic classes. Hope you can find some good help online at lease.... or maybe find a new Endocrinologist!
Velda.... I wonder if you and Suzette and I aren't all under some massive weather system....
Sent to us by Jana in Utah!!!! Hope you can get your diabetes checked too. Do you suppose there's something in the air?
Judi... Have fun seeing the sights today!! Hope the weather clears up for you!
Diane... How awesome.... 26 VN vets!!! Happy Birthday to your Lily and DH too! She's the same age as my Corinne... a day apart! Nice to be able to travel without masks... or do you still wear one?
Becca.... Will Frances be able to come down and visit for the Holidays? Won't that be great. Hope you get some good 4 generation pictures.
Maryz... Now that I know that St. Vincent will shred stuff... I can get rid of a lot of my old stained shirts! I never wanted to donate those because who'd want to buy a stained shirt! My neighbor Margie used to volunteer there and she said they make more on the shred than on selling stuff. They will even shred shoes! My informed delivery from the PO says your blocks are arriving today! So anxious to hear that little Miss Kumquat has arrived safe and sound!!! Would be nice if she turned her little butt around!!
I'm almost as excited as you!!!!
Just kind of waiting for the roads to get plowed, as of right now I don't think I can get out of my garage. I really should have gone out yesterday... I've waited til the last minute to get Corinne's B'day present. Need to pick up a gift cert. for a manny/pedi for her so the 3 of us can go together (Evie too) In the meantime I need to unload dishwasher etc.
but first.... more coffee!

Re: Saturday April 1st
Good morning. What a beautiful day it is going to be today. We should see 60* and be dry all next week. What a blessing to dry out.
Jerry's appointment went well. They still need to schedule the biopsy. The cancer doctor and biopsy performer need to discuss it. Seems that the cancer in his spine and liver aren't as big as assumed. Monday we will go have a radiation consultation. Finally, praise God, we are starting treatment. Sure changes a person's disposition when treatment is within reach. Jerry already has a more positive outlook, I am grateful. He keeps telling me I won't be changing the living room into my sewing room just yet. I just say We will see. Humor helps.
Yesterday we went into town to buy a new weed eater. Since I will be using it mostly it is going to be battery operated. Our old one, also battery charged, has a dying battery, they don't last forever and this one is almost as old as Marilyn. Seems Lowes doesn't carry the 80-volt items in stock so it had to be ordered, we will see it next week. I wanted to purchase just the battery, but Jerry wanted the whole thing.
Also, next week we get a bid to put a cooling coil in our furnace and have our windows tweaked, some lock some don't. We use two big window A/C units, and they are just getting too heavy to lift.
I guess that getting older along with illness is prompting us to get things done now rather than later. We've also talked about a new vehicle before Cali quits selling gas powered anything.
Suzette, diet can help with diabetes. Lots of foods are higher in sugar content. Staying away from white food (potatoes, pasta, bread) and some high sugar veggies can help. I belong to a low carb group on facebook and they have a book on low carb in their files. I can send you a link. If you are on insulin the cost of insulin is reduced with Medicare. Go to Medicare.gov and you can search for just about anything and get answers. Medicare.gov is great for finding your part D plan too. Remember to sign up for A,B and D to avoid penalties. Contact your local Agency on Aging or HICAP to help you find what you need. They are a free resource.
Maryz, I saw the OWL was on sale. And so glad you got the just in case sleepers too. You just never know what the future holds and they might come in handy. Jerry was a volunteer fireman and that isn't likely where the calcification came from. It's probably from the years he was union carpenter, before asbestos was a thing.
Valerie, Jerry's calcification is likely asbestos related. So? since DGS and DD are getting married on the same day are the weddings near each other?
We were going to go to a flea market thing today but instead I am staying home and tackling projects that Jerry just doesn't have the energy to do. The weather will be great for a burn pile and some weed eating / mowing. And I want to do a little housework.
If I don't get moving nothing will get done. It's just after 8am and my grandpa would say the day is half over.
You all have a marvy day,
Chriss
